which one is better? any ideas?

Well, I guess most people will say Photoshop. I used to use PSP all the time and used to love it! I use Photoshop for most of my editing now, but I prefer PSP for laying out multiple photos for printing! It's just what I'm used to I suppose but the feature in PSP for that is very good!

I've never used Paint Shop Pro and have no idea what it's capable of, but I would say Photoshop for two reasons. 1) It's awesome, I can't imagine anything being better. 2) As far as I know, it's considered the standard.

If there is a chance that one day you may want to move up to more serious program start with Photoshop elements. That way you are familiar with the commands. You know I bet I could sell my old psp program.

i was just wondering what the census was..i use psp myself, and i LOVE it. i just downloaded the trial of the new version 10 today, and its really cool.
Anyways....just wanted some imput as i'm about to rebuy!

Photoshop is the "standard" and has more features than PSP. But, PSP is very capable. The upgrade price for PSP (assuming you have V4 or higher) is $55US. Hard to beat that...

I used to take a computer class at my school where I learned to use PSP and I thought it wasn't nearly as good as PS, but that was like 4 years ago I think (PS 6.0 was just out).

I use both. PS CS2 at work and PSP X at home... to my mind, PSP is well featured, easier to use and cheaper; PS CS2 more powerful but with a steeper learning curve and more expensive...

Just curious...what features does Photoshop have that PSP doesn't?

If you're a registered owner of earlier versions of PSP you should have received an e-mail offering an upgrade to PSP X for $33. But the offer expires 11/30/05. I haven't used it yet but I have heard that you can use all plug-ins that are compatible with Photoshop; it does 16-bit editing, and includes RAW Shooter Essentials for conversion of RAW files.

I have used PhotoShop and found it challenging. I even took 2 PhotoShop classes (one online and one in a classroom). I still found it difficult. My son (age 22) uses PhotoShop with great success. So I guess there's a learning curve.

I have Paint Shop Pro on my computer now and love it. It's very "user friendly". It has great filters and other fun options.

i just downloaded a trial of psp x (v.10) last night....they added a bunch of stuff and it is awesome!! (it was before too, but even better now!!)

I have never used Photoshop, so I can't give you an answer based on first hand experience. But a couple that I have heard mentioned is the 'edit | fade' function for whatever the last filter/adjustment you did, can apply USM in different modes, I believe there are different/additional layer blending modes...just what I am aware of with no actual research.

edit to add: I am on PSP8, so there may be some new things in 9/X that I am not aware of.

hmmm....I didn't get that e-mail. I got the early one that said I could upgrade for $79....and see the upgrade price on the website. But, don't recall the $33 deal. I was thinking about upgrading for $55....$33 would be even better! :-)
