I am currently running my 2nd worse score (4.3) since I joined about 50 challenges ago (sept 2002). I seem to have interpreted "country Life" in a way that others do not accept. To me, country life does not only mean farm animals, crop fields and cowboys. I live in a major metropolitan area, so country to me is anywhere where you have more than 200 sf of green space in your yard, or lakes and open fields and lots of trees.

Next time, I'll take a picture of Shania Twain. NOw that's country.

Oh well, live and learn...

Yep, that was a weird subject, "Country Life", made me think I should go look for cornucopias and pumpkins, but, I resisted the urge ... and am now paying the price just like you. Although, maybe the picture just isn't any good :)

Never thought of Shanaia!

I agree mariomel. I guess there's a subconcious bias that alot of people can't seem to get past. My idea of country is non-urban or rural and to me that doesn't necessarily mean cows, barns, horses, ducks or grain silos. We have people here from all over the world so I'm trying to be cognizant in my voting.

i agree, to me country is anything out of the city and suburbs

well, there was a citylife challenge for those who live in the city (those who lived in the country were kinda screwed there..) this was their turn :) Obviously there isn't much of what people call "country life" in the middle of the city, but eh.. thats how it fell for this week.. at the same time you said "damn, i live in the middle of the city.." somoene else said "yay! i live in the country!"

I took a picture in my front yard just for the sake of submission...knowing it would score low. I had no time for travelling to the country. The strange part of this...its actually scoring reasonably well so far...for me. You think I fooled them? Then again, I really need to mow the lawn!

Any time anyone wants to submit a picture of Shania Twain, I'll give it a good score. As long as I don't have to listen to her music.

I had a really awesome shot that's much better than the one I submitted that I didnt' submit for exactly this reason. It was just about as country as you can get, however it was a shot of a farm from the ocean overlooking these great cliffs. All you could see was a house on the bluffs and couldn't tell that it was a farm. I figures people would think, hey, that's not country farm life, that's sea-life, or something like that. It appears that I was right. I'm gonna put that pic in my portfolio after the challenge as an outtake though cause I really want to know what people think of it.

LOL remind me after the voting is over to show you my photo. It was taken in the city, I just created the atmosphere, and believe me when I say I created it I really used my imagination to pull it all together....My photo is actually doing pretty well too for having been taken in the city, if it continues as it is doing now it will definately been in my top 5 highest scores....

Well I think ppl vote on how cool they think the pic is not how well it fits the challenge.....

What I mean is like I havent seen any pics in that challenge that wouldnt fit in that frame of thinking so if your vote is low its just simply coz your pic aint that good;)

I myself am having my 3rd piece in for voting in this Country thing and belive me when I tell you guys .....
You are killing me:o

I submitted a photo of an Asian country side, and it seems many cannot see "country side" in it (from the comments obviously). I'm getting very poor scores and this is highly discouraging me from submitting anymore Asian flavours to this site.

This is my 26th challenge and so far my score is an all time low. I was beginning to think that the general challenge voters were just getting more rough, till I saw this discussion thread. My photo this week isn't that great, but I was expecting the score to be about 0.4 (or more) higher than it currently is. I'm not showing any cows or farm animals either, so maybe THAT's my problem! ;-)

I thought my score would be a LOT higher than this! I do hope it goes up as the week goes on, because I was debating between this photo and an entirely different one for DAYS before I finally went with the slightly more out-there choice. I thought the one I went with was really going to knock people's socks off, but no, everyone still appears to have their socks quite firmly on. :)

I might post a link to the other contender later tonight and see what you guys think -- want to wait till after voting is over, but a) it's not remotely like my submission OR anything anyone else submitted, and b) my schedule won't permit me much time on-line next week. Hmmm. If that's a bad idea, tell me now and I won't do it.

Excellent. But we all know that the majority of the people are not voting on what you think country is. They are voting on what they think country is. And there are stereotypes. We all know this going into the challenge. So... if your picture isn't the stereotype for "country life" and it's not doing well ... can't really complain too much. We are all faced with the same challenge. And we all know how the people vote around here.

Hey, I don`t live in the city and am very happy to live in the country so I say yay when this challenge appeared. I don`t much care for big city life. Maybe the next challenge should be smog, garbage and congestion lets see who can take the most disgusting picture!LOL

We live in the country. We, the whole family for several days, went further out in the country to catch our typical Swedish woods. All four of us submitted shots from our trip and all are doing very bad, 4.9-5.0-5.2-5.3.
So people don´t go to Sweden on vacation because you´re not going to like what you see!
