No thread yet, so I thought I would start.

Did I select the right one to enter?

I think they are both good shots. The red jumps out at me a bit more, especially as the riders outfit and the bike colors are the same. The colors in the background are more vibrant too.

I agree, I liked the colors better in the out-take. The reasons I selected the one I entered was:
1) I could see his face
2) His posture was better
3) The glint of sun on the front rim

Oh...and the person in the background of the out-take I found a little distracting.

Chris, I like your entry better. I really like the feeling of motion.

It would have been better had i been on a motorcycle! I like it, i like that the car's parts show. Not all the commenters agree with me, but then if they did i guess i'd have a blue ribbon!

Here were some outtakes from the challenge.

Thank you all for my 6th place! Here are some outtakes:

My submission:

I considered the one below because of the nice composition IMO. Decided to go for the other one because of the rich colours in the sky and the two extra birds (although they are slightly more out of focus):

I considered this other shot (also see this thread):

Guess I chose the right one... or did I? ;-)

@ Tony: I like your entry better for the reasons you stated.
@ Chris: I like your entry best because of the feeling of speed it gives. The effect in the other picture is what I have seen in more pictures: a blur to imply movement, but not a very unidirectional blur, so the effect is a shaken picture.
@ Rikki: I think you made some very nice shots and am happy you told us about how it is done. In a challenge for mulitple exposure you would have scored very high.

Thanks for your comments!

PS - I hope I did this url-link-stuff right; it's the first time...

Milan, they're both good pictures, I doubt you would have scored better with the second one. Good idea, very out of the box.

Aren't there more shutter speed outtakes out there?

I had one of those "overdone" waterfall pictures. But a fair amount of thought went into it. This was my entry:

I originally had taken this shot the day before at a different waterfall.

I wasn't sure about it because there wasn't enough "gossamar" quality to the falls. It was a fun time though as it was pouring rain and my kids enjoyed being out while it was wet. I came back the next day and hiked up a mile further to find Fairy Falls.

Here's another angle on Fairy Falls.

Hard to choose sometimes, isn't it? Left you a comment on all three.

Hey, thanks for the comments. I guess I can add oversaturation to "my style" adjectives. :) I definitely did boost the greens on these. We went back and forth (this is my wife and myself) about which angle to do and finally went with the entry because the straight on sorta distorts the falls a bit. Still I like that one too. I guess we'll blame my wife. Of course if we do that and I win a ribbon in Landscape I have to give the credit to her as well...

Those comments were helpful. I wish I had more like that.

I'm glad you found my comments useful. I think that's what challenge outtake threads are for: to talk about why you did or didn't enter a picture. It's a very good self reflection and learning experience when people say why they agree or don't agree with your choice. However, posting an outtake thread after a challenge does not interest many people in general IMO and that's a pity. I have tried to start an outtake thread during the light on white challenge but was told that the policy is to not do that. I think we should re-open that discussion, especially now there're three challenges running almost simultanuously. I'm sure there are others that agree, or am I just trying to do what lots of others have tried before?
