I think this will be my last post on this thread. We all get so superstitious, don't we? Tuesday is not going to come fast enough...

I am so excited. Second entry and just barely above a 6. That's good no?

I am finding it EXTREMELY difficult to vote this challenge. I keep stopping and just staring at the absolutely gorgeous shots that have been entered! I think it should be mandatory that after the challenge everyone has to give locations so I can plan my next vacation.

I didn't enter this one...wish I had. But I can clearly see that to say I would have been outclassed is a serious understatement. Beautiful images everyone!

Well Brad, I got a hunch we may not even ribbon. The scores are going to be up there...

Won't say where I am now.... ;)

Man mines bumming, and I know why. the 1.3mp of power sucks on a tight crop. If only I could retake it next week...

I've been going up up up during the whole challenge. Let's just say it will fit into my Top 4 most definitely :)

well, I'm close to 7.8 but I think I'm gonna get disqualyfied .. I made alot of pictures in that particular scene, but I forgot to note which one was the one I've sent for the contest.. I've got a request for proof and I've uploaded something that looked pretty close to the one i've submitted :(

hope it's the one ;)

I don't know about you but my photo is getting docked big points because of the size limitations of DPC.. I've got a panoramic that is 640x160... most of my comments are that it is a nice shot but 'couldn't it have been bigger?' I of course can't make it wider and any taller would ruin the panoramic. Argh! Is there a way to let these people know that I wanted to make if bigger but couldn't?

Oh well, I'm sure I'm not the first with this grievance, and there's probably nothing that can be done about it - so maybe if I just got some pity I'd feel better. :)

(but, of course, a solution would rock!)

Beware, the trolls lurk. Last two scores on my best score ever were a 4 and then a 2...yikes.

I know exactly what you mean. I had a 3 and 3 vote in a row just a few moments ago.
Do what I do when low votes come in. I have a second screen up and when I see a low vote I go to the second screen and do a screen print. Then I see who is on line when low votes come in. What does that do, process of elimination from challenge to challenge.

Well, let me know if you get anywhere with that... :)

The next vote was a 10, so it's all good.

If I do or if I don't it really don't matter because people are going to vote on there liking. I have no problem with that but it is discouraging when most of you votes have been 6 and 7's all day and then receive 2-three votes.

I have done it in the past when frustrated. But I don't do it now. After being here over a year I have came to terms that 1). I will not be able to avoid the low votes, 2). Everyone has the right to vote the way they wish, 3). Even though scores matter because this is a challenge, they don't define the photograph. That's in they eye of the photographer.

So even though I would like to have some high scores, a top 5, or better yet a ribbon. The photograph that I entered and the comments received is worth more than the score. If I can somehow - show someone - what I see - with the emotion that I felt when I took the picture, then thats reward enough.

Very true words spoken here

As much as I try and stay true to this ideal, it's still bugs me a bit to see after 260+ votes, a high score dropping quite a bit.

As an example, earlier today, I was at 6.94, now seeing it around 6.78, 20 some votes later.
A 0.15 drop after that many votes says a good number of low votes are coming in. Seeing a 7 score is fading fast.

It is about the scores, but keep reminding myself that it isn't anymore, especially as my entry is full crop and damn near straight out of the camera - a personal challenge of sorts, to make my shots IN the camera, and NOT in PS whenever possible. My single light source is the same - full crop, nearly no editing.

Same thing happening with me. I've been climbing steadily for several days, to where I was sure I'd make my profile front page with this one, then in the last TEN votes I've seen a drop of .15... But that averages out to 5.5 for each of the last 10 votes. I was thinking I was getting slammed, but I am not. The numbers just futz around real fast when you're in the mid-6's; a stream of 5 and 6 votes knocks off over a tenth of a point every 7-10 votes. You have to get 6's and 7's to hold a 6.5 average.

It's eerie how parallel we are otherwise; I'm making a similar shift to full-frame, minimally processed shots myself. At least, minimally for me... I still like my saturation, but I'm using few (if any) special effects anymore.

Robt.
