RKT is one I've noticed lately for giving very thoughtful comments to people.

The original post said "feedback". I hope that wasn't supposed to be limited to comments on individual photos.

Well, it is very difficult to choose only one, there are many great photogs here, extremely helpful and inspiring. I receive many great comments from them on a regular basis, and I guess I could go on and on about that. I have thought about it for a day or two, and my vote goes for Robert (bear music). He has some incredible shots, at least a couple in my favs. He has commented on my shots with great advice many times, and even looked at some of my stuff and helped through pms. Also his comments/crits on others photos and in the forums are always helpful. And his mentorship threads are a must read IMO.

so...my one vote: bear music

If it has to be one vote ... then it must be Robert ... bear_music.

Anyone else wanna post a nomination or add to the current ones?
11/08/2005 12:52:00 PM · #64
Like everyone's said, picking one is tough - it means eliminating a lot of people who I admire. But I'm going to cast my vote for Ed Clark (e301). He has left many a good comment, but he also gave me the single best, most in-depth and thoughtful comment/critique I've ever gotten on one of my challenge entries - and it wasn't even a great shot. I always appreciated that he took that much time and effort.

I second those who have mentioned:-

Skiprow
Imagineer
RKT
Stdavidson
E301
Jutilda
Ubique

...all thoughtful commenters. I'm going to add BobsterLobster who can be a pretty sharp critic at times which has led to some forum action....but, after all, does another 'nice photo' comment help us to improve?

(conscience saver: close runners up for my nomination: Geewhy, Mocabela and Messerschmidt)

These for me are two completely different areas. I get the best feedback from someone completely different to the person I get the most inspiration from. Again, the best feedback I get from someone who hasn't given it to me personally but generally to other people, which, in turn, is also a help to me.

From the helpful feedback side of it I would also have to choose Ed Clark (e301). If you look at his comments (nearly 2500 of them), there is always something helpful to be taken from them. No rubbishy comments like "nice pic", "I like it" or "wow". Only helpful feedback from Ed!

Inspiration is different. My inspiration I get from my wife Anastasia. She always has good ideas, and helps me in fine tuning my ideas. If I want to enter a photo and it is not so good, she tells me directly that she hates it. I thank her for the majority of my ribbons. It is a wonder to me she hasn't won any herself!

If you only want one name from me John then you have to refine the question.

I can't really refine it much more. Maybe you should just choose your greatest source of inspiration. The feedback element isn't really as strong as the source of inspiration in the greater scheme of things. Inspiration is feedback in itself...

The last 24hrs I have been trying to come up with one name.
Who do I look up to most in terms of photographic skills and the constructive feedback given on images, challenge or not.
I can't pick just one.

I can pick two though.
Two members here I would consider mentors of the finest caliber:

David Sidwell and you John Setzler
