Dancer in the Dark made me bawl twice for a few minutes each. It was terrible. Although one of my favorite films.

Vera Drake too.

Sling Blade
The part towards the end when Karl gives the boy, Frank, the bookmark that says "You Will Be Happy" always gets me.

I forgot about that one...I have it on VHS and forget that VHS is still an option for watching movies! :)

Coyla--I liked Simon Birch, but for those who haven't seen it and love to read, please please please read John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany instead, the book on which the movie was based. It's one of my favorite gift books to give out. :)

Love Actually--yes, the scene outside the door, but also the scene in the restaurant where he decides to tell his housekeeper that he loves her. *sigh*

Blade Trinity, Star Wars, Battle Royale !

Some of these titles are amazing.
Talk about artistic sensibilities.
Perhaps because I'm film oriented, this thread seems much more interesting than the music ones. Great psycho-sociological study.

Anyone need a term paper or thesis:
"An Analysis of the Effects of Cinema on Individuals with Artistic Temperaments"

I think my #1 tearjerker will always be Amistad.

When he's in court and stands up with that look on his face and starts saying "Give me free".. and you think about all the scenes you've just watched getting up to that point, man I tear up just thinking about it.

Someone mentioned a couple of TV series so my one TV show episode is from Angel when he gets turned human and he and Buffy get to have an almost normal time of it.. but in the end he learns he can't help the world in his human state and there's just 10 seconds left before time gets reversed.. gah. So sweet and heartwrenching.

But then I'm a sucker for Angel.

Oh and I hear you on the TV commercials making you cry - I can't get past that old one for the United Negro College Fund where the older brother can't go to college because the family doesn't have enough money and the little brother goes and gets his big jar of change and asks "Is this enough?"

damnit.

Don't cry in movies, but some I get close in:
The Kid (Caplin, not Bruce)
Power of One (If you haven't seen it, rent it now)
Braveheart (I don't care who you are, this movie is sad)
Finding Neverland (That kids face is ridiculously sad)
The Village (I get beat for liking this movie so much, but what can I say- Shyamalan is genius)
Whale Rider (She is amaznig)
War of the Worlds (Dunno why everyone hated it, thought it was awesome)

Movies you hate to admit you cried in:
Charly (The one and only chick flick)
Land Before Time (No one can say they didn't tear up when his mom dies!)
Romeo + Juliet
Retrun of the King (It would've been fine if it had just been during the movie...but 3 hours after too? It's not like I hadn't read the books!)

Do I look like I would cry at movies??

...OH, ALRIGHT! I DO, I DO! Pretty much all of them mentioned here. I can admit that cuz none of you know me. ...and because I have a torch in my hand.

This one brings back memories! When Brian was a toddler, he would watch this (and a select few others) over and over and over and over and over and over and I am just coming to terms with the fact that in a few more weeks it all starts again. :(

I'm with you. One of the most idealogical and touching movies I've ever seen. How many of you thought about going out and paying it forward? I did.

I cried like a little baby girl!

Could the night scene with the community arriving with candles be any more emotional? *gulp*

Not me - I'm permanently stuck on "Pay Back!" ;-)

The part in Battle Royale where they show Shuya's dream, himself watching his dead friend Nobu waving to him from a far distance with the heart-wrenching violin solo...oh...just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.
