I am selling my SLR ELAN IIE and going digital. I have about 1000 to spend. I want to go with a camera that I can take professional quality photos with and also will need to get accesories for like Macro lenses and FD filters etc. I have looked extensively at the G2 and G3. Does anyone have any other options they would recommend for a proffesional output from a camera in my price range? Thanks so much, just want to know what others think. |

Go to DPReview and check out the models and the reviews...
I'm partial to my Sony F707. It has just been replaced by the 717. Both are excellent cameras and I would put my 707 up against the G2 or G3 anyday... The 717 sells for $999. If you can find the 707, you will get it for a steal since it has just been discontinued.
Macro capabilites are phenomenal and the lens accepts 58mm filters with no adapter...

John I was going to ask you about your F707 and your feelings on it vs. getting a SLR such as a EOS D60. I might upgrade and the F707 is selling for about a grand Canadian up here 'while supplies last'. I'm considering upgrading but wonder if it's not enough of a step from my S50 and would find myself wanting more in the future. |

I've had my G2 for five months and I have absolutely no regrets. It takes great pictures and it's compact enough to fit in a small camera bag. Of course I'm itching to get a Canon D60, but that's just normal.

Yeah, there's just something about that silky, noiseless D30 and D60 image. I might not be happy with something less... |
