OK ... I would like some assistance with this photo. I actually thought I would do a lot better (no, I'm not whining about my score!), so I would like to know what I could have done for this to have been voted higher.

Did I do something wrong? Too much of something? Composition? Lighting? Burning? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! :)

I liked it and gave it a 7. I'm not sure what would have been better in your shot. Maybe take her a "little" out of the corner...to the right a bit?

I loved this shot - But then I *do* like these types of emotive images.

I really can't see anything wrong technically with this. Perhaps if I could see more of her face? (e.g. if showing more of her face made her expression more obvious, then it might have more impact)

I like the composition. I think the grain is good. But to me, it looks "muddy" in contrast as opposed to just low contrast, and the burning/dodging around her is uneven and somwhat obvious. Perhaps it's the halo around her, or perhaps the walls and surroundings are just too dark and flat. But they don't seem to belong together as burned/dodged.

I gave it a 6; a little more attention to that and I might have given it a 7 or better.

Yeah, I saw that halo, and the more I tried messing with it, the worse it got. :) I tried starting all over, but I wasn't getting it the same way I did the first time. I thought the burning might hurt me a bit, but hoped it would be mistaken for smudges on the wall. :) Thanks for the positive feedback!

Left a comment, hope it helps.

Edit: it's very similar to what nshapiro said. Contrast and halo.

If you wanted to burn up close to her, but not actually burn her, you could have selected her, then inverted. That would contain the burn tool to the selected area and even if you drug it over her, it wouldn't actually burn outside the selection.

Maybe something to try next round.

Thanks for all the helpful hints. :) Maybe I'll try to revamp it.
