I never thought I would complain about scores, but...
My entry in light on white:

I got 7 ones, 21 twos, 37 threes, 4 comments-two of which were very positive. The background is white, the colors are light, it is in focus, highlights not blown. Creativity is weak, but ones and twos? I would appreciate it if at least the ones and twos would tell me what they were thinking.

Already discussing the bad scores in this one.

Focus looks a little soft to me.

Damn a lot of complaints in this challenge.

Certainly doesn't deserve one's or two's, sheesh, llama-voters. Could use more spew.

Actually, I expected 3's and 4's, don't really think it was underrated overall, just upset with that many ones and twos with no comments

Perhaps it is because it is out of focus and not overly creative. I gave it a 5 because it met the challenge.

EDIT: after reading my post I thought it sounded a little harsh. I apologize it wasn't meant that way. (I shouldn't post when I am busy! lol). What I meant to say was that if something meets the challenge I give it a 5 right off the bat. Then, I look at creativity and technical aspects. Chalk it up to experience and don't let it sway your enthusiasm.

I feel your pain, I guess there must be digital voters out there, if they like it, 10, if they don't, 1. Mine did better than I thought it would placing sixth and was voted three or lower by 15 voters.
Frankly I dont get it, if your shot answers the challenge and has any technical merit how do you vote it below a four, even is it is not to your taste. Every so often the idea of requiring a comment to vote very low or very high, is floated and shot down, but i sure wish the low voters would care to comment sometimes. It is interesting to go through the profiles pages and see the folks who have never submitted work here who's average vote given is around 2. Gosh they must be masters to have such a dicriminating eye, One hopes they will someday share with us their creative light and submit something.

IMO, if there are accounts like this, they should be purged. Probably 'shill' accounts that vote 10 for their own entry & low for the rest. :-(

Yes, that Is why I prefer the member challenges. Reduced chance of multiple accounts.

I thought they already purged votes that were made by people who did that.

I voted a 4 since it met the challenge. Not much else. I didn't like the highlights on the button. Also the colors were bland.

Of course, what I thought was best in this challenge didn't rank high, but I seem to be adverage vote on this picture.

What should you do to improve it? Use a bigger light source. Use curves to bring out the colors or desaturate to make it more black and white. Also, you should've shot this at a lower ISO like 100 instead of 800. The only reason you should use ISO800 is for hand holding this shot, but you should use a tripod to get the ISO down.

I hope this helps.

I don't think it's too tough to get around the mechanism that detects shill voting by spreading a few scores around. :-(

I, like so many others, was really more upset at the lack of comments than the actual scores. I am certainly not knowledgeable enough yet to leave comments like this, but I find this type the most helpful. I wish I could get a some of these on every entry. Of course, I like the ones that say what the person liked and find them encouraging and even the basic list of dislikes is helpful. Perhaps the professionals and experienced/knowledgeable non-pro's could be encouraged to leave more in depth comments such as this? Especially on the 1,2,3 votes and occasionally on the 4,5,6's. The sooner we improve the sooner we will post better shots in the challenges!

For me, it's hard enough to vote let alone leave constructive critism which might fall on deaf ears.
