mmm I don't want to say that, but I'm pretty convinced that there is someone that is voting not following the personal taste but the opposite... If a picture is good, let's give it a kick down!

This conspiracy theory is an old stand-by -- but there has never been any evidence prevented to support it.

Bottom line -- it's their vote, they can do with it as they please.

If the photo obviously doesn't meet the challenge. I give it a 1, no matter how good the photo is.

From the rules:

Any attempts to alter the point totals in any way for any photograph will result in immediate loss of account and a ban from the site.

So, what is the purpose of this thread? It seems it has the sole purpose of influencing how people vote on a current challenge.

Maybe we should stop here ....

There will always be a risk of this... what you can hope for is that the number of sad people trying to influence the results in their favour (?) is so small that it doesn't have any real impact on the average scores.

If I don't feel a picture addresses the challenge subject very well I also mark it down even if it's a great picture per se.

So you've received a score that doesn't match your personal taste? How could you possibly know that someone isn't voting their personal taste?

Not in my intention at all. I didn't even tell on which challenge... it's just my opinion, forget it. I'm crazy.

Not crazy ... more likely rightfully disappointed. But you just have to figure on a few bad votes every time ... they don't could for much and can usually be ignored.

Plus, if the person really doesn't "get" a pretty obvious picture, aren't they to be more pitied than castigated?

This hasn't exactly been enforced in black and white in the past, though I think we get the idea.

More often presented in duotone mode I think ... : )

Maybe I should have used the [grumpy][/grumpy] tags myself.

Ummm, isn't just giving a vote, high, low or in the middle "an attempt to alter the point total" for that photograph?

So by voting, we're all violating the rules.

You think the Administration should have a monopoly on NewSpeak? : )

It appears there is not just a sniper, but a firing squad for my image. It either wasn't my best image or it was just too darn creative for the world to accept.

Could be just some confusion. If someone didn't read the words "Bad" and "Good" they may have reversed the ratings (i.e. they use 1 for good and 10 for Bad).

So a photographs average score in a challenge of 2.5 is really a 7.5. I like this line if thinking. I feel alot better about some of my entries........except the ones that scored high.

Good point. Now how do I explain that the Brown Ribbon is good?
