Dang, just got my first comment. Now I have nothing to root for. Comment said my background wasn't really white...
10/27/2005 12:27:41 PM · #127
The question is, what's white? Monitors are all calibrated differently. Non-white backgrounds can be made to appear white, so did it still meet the challenge cause it wasn't white? How about a white background that wasn't lit up enough and appears slightly off white in some way, does it meet the challenge, cause it doesn't look 'pure' white?
To me, any background looking mostly reasonably white to some extend meets the challenge, but there seem to be some white fanatic judges out there. LOL
I think some voters are so stuck on THEIR interpretation of what the challenge was all about and forget about it being a photo contest besides meeting a challenge. I personally rate a picture higher if it doesn't quite meet the challenge but the quality, technique, composition etc is excellent, than a picture meeting the challenge that is just poorly executed. But we are all soooo different, which makes this site so interesting.

Well, I'm quite certain there is no color cast as I converted to grayscale. ;) I went "out of the box" and didn't have a solid white background and that's what I think he was commenting on. It was a risk, but I had noticed that there were a few at least in the old challenge which did quite well.

Because my background isn't solid, I have to have some gray to keep detail.

Ya, just this week I put on my bio my "goal" of a 6.0 votes received average. This is going to take weeks to make up for. :(

But the rat shrugged off the "0" he got yesterday and is still fighting...

Plus I'm still on course for a 0 comment challenge.

Heck, I just want to be in the 5's! I put that as a goal of mine. I am really disappointed in how my photo converted when I posted it. It isn't as white as it was when I cropped and resized it and there are these blotches of colors and a yellowish cast. None of that was there in my original. I need to take a class on resizing images so I can keep the original colors. Ugh!

Well, a good day today, Ratty is still alive and kicking. The one fun thing about a score like this...a vote of 5 actually raises the score.

WOW!!!!

I am moving up the ladder. Getting farther away from the brown ribbon.
Whats funny is my only comment likes the composition but feels the background has a little gray in it. THERE CALLED SHADOWS!. Anyway, this challenge is strange anyway. Always remember this is a learning experience and is all in fun.

Is this where you get a text file of you steps used? I went to edit>preferences>general in 7.0 and couldn't find it. A little help?
10/28/2005 12:10:39 AM · #136
Well, to be honest, Doc, I just turned on the wee history panel found under "window". I am hoping that Rikki11 will enlighten us further as to a the text version?? ;)

And I thought I am the only person with crappy scores!! I like the comments though, atleast everyone appreciates the creative efforts that I put in, if only others would understand the creativity involved :)

Not sure about PS7 Doc. I have CS at work. I'll check when I get home. Still at work right now so I can't say.

In CS it's under Edit/Preferences/ and then click the history log and use text instead of Metadata.

By the way, how long do I have to prove my image? Any SC around? Still at work and won't be able to do it until tomorrow. Yep it'll be a looong night :(

Architecture sucks :P

You've got 48 hours rikki, according to the basic rules.

If you cannot (or do not) submit your original photo within 48 hours of the request, your photograph will be disqualified.

Good luck!
