I can understand why I get noise in low light conditions. But I seem to be getting quite a few noisy exposures when the lighting conditions are very bright. Why would that be?

What ISO? It's not the low light that gives you grain - it's long exposures or high iso.

In low light I use higher ISO and/or long exposure = more noise

But I'm getting noise in very bright conditions shot at ISO 200

Are you underexposing? Look at your histogram, and try to keep it towards the top of it (without blowing the highlights):

1) You will get less noise, since noise shows up in dark underexposed areas
2) If you have to adjust it "down" in brightness, you'll darken noise further
3) The upper half of the histogram is supposed to represent a more dynamic range than the lower half.

Also, shooting RAW will give you more control, more pixel depth, and will help you adjust exposure +- 1 stop to adjust for any overexposed area within that range.

You're right. This may be a problem. I've looked back at some of the noisy images and they look under-exposed. They are shot in RAW and trying to recover the exposure generates the noise.

Thanks
