I think the cool thing about sports is it doesn't have to be directly a sport that you photograph, or even the ball that you play the sports with. For those of you who enjoy candids, you could catch a friend or family member enigmatically watching a football game on tv for instance. Or you could get a friend to dress up as one of those wacky sports fans you see on tv, and make it a portrait. There are a lot of things you could do. I think it would be the emotion the picture invoked that would give you a great picture.
Another Idea, instead of calling it sports, is HUMANS IN ACTION! This could be a fun one to play with movement, stop action, and blurring... but with the human aspect, which makes it pretty interesting... just some ideas out of the head of a sports photographer who gets few comments on other sites because no one knows what to say. Also this would be an awesome chance for people like me who are into sports photography, to help other people improve in this area, which is an excellent skill to have!
