HELP! I'm counting down the hours to the challenge end... I have the best idea ever, but I desperately need a black background for it, and since I'm just an amature, I have no black background.

Any ideas?

THANKS SO MUCH

Use velvet.
Use very little light. Increase the distance between background and light source. Paint with light.

** :D sorry for forgeting this... Part of my problem is the amount of space i need to cover... It's a pretty wide shot.

Construction paper for a dull background or poster board for a shiny one. Assuming the thing you're photographing is smaller than a breadbox. Otherwise get thee to Wal*Mart and buy a black sheet (either cotton or fake silk).

buy construction paper, they are cheap, less than $1, arrange them to cover the wall, shouldn't be too expensive I guess.

Shoot outdoors at night with no ambient light and no close background, just space, light your subject with lights or flash with diffuser.

Thanks all...

I'll be using most of your ideas in the future, actually. It's a very big shot.

Out-doors with no light... interesting... :D:D:D

Any other ideas?

No ambient light, you will need to light your subject :)

I agree with the black sheet (or sheets). Got mine at Walmart for $3 each. You can also try a fabric store for a very dark colored cloth and get the amount you need - or maybe find a remnant at a good price. I'm not that picky about my black, and I have found that as long as the subject is away from the background a bit, and the lighting is on the subject (not on the background) most anything dark will appear black.

Again..I'm not that picky about it, but some folks here are.

I have a black velvet cape that works really well. I don't think everyone keeps a black cpe on hand, but thought I'd suggest it.

You can make the BG ANY color that's not part of the subject you're shooting, then use selective color in photoshop to darken it to black. Assuming you can find anything big enough to work.
