I'm new to this site (just one month). I didn't want to be voting inappropriately. But I think the black and white and grays, plus others that just aren't complementary colors deserve 1's for missing the point. If the pic is really good I would go up to maybe a 4. Does this sound reasonable. Unfortunately, I think some people posted some bad color wheel's. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Just trying to learn and be fair.

there is no rules on how you are to vote. That is completely up to you. You will find though, that a lot of folk on the site, myself included, rarely if even give ones. We save them for images that are so tiny blurry pointless and off topic that we would prefer to discourgae a repeat of the same quality in the next challenge.

Nowever, it is an unwritten rule/ written suggestion that if you hand out 1, 2 or 3's you leave the photographer a comment explaining the justification of the score.

LOL< gotta laugh, if I read the entry rules correctly, they stated try to use TWO comp colors for your photo, do NOT see many at all that come close to that. And I will be willing to wager not many are voting with that in mind. Oh well, sorry I took it to be two colors (at least overly predominate) and came up with a photo using only two. Will try to remember that things like that are up to individuals to make up their own minds. Think I would have done a bit better with more colors!

I was taught that RED, YELLOW and BLUE are PRIMARY COLORS from which all colors on the color wheel are derived. Complimentary colors would be situated across from the other on a color wheels, for example Red and Green are complimentary or Purple and Yellow. Black and White are not colors but shades. Contrasting colors would be closer to each other on the color wheels, such as red and orange.

"While colors are fresh on your mind, try to use two complementary colors to compose your photograph."

You see, there is a loophole in the challenge. You only needed to TRY to use complementary colors. It doesn't say you have to.

"Honest, I tried, I just couldn't find any."
