Yes, I do things always at the 11th hour it seems. I have a photo that I want to use for a Thanksgiving card to send to friends and family. Will you please take a look at it and tell me what you think? Also, I am thinking about writing the words, Happy Thanksgiving on the photo -- would that be ok? Here it is. Thanks!Thanksgiving Photo

Nice still life. I think you could put the words on the photo, if the font was right.

I notice a slight color cast to the pic, but I'm guessing its intentional (if i remove it it seems a bit harsher); if not i could post an adjusted photo to show what I mean.

Yes, please show me what you mean. There shouldn't be any color cast so whatever it is is not intentional. Thanks

There's a bit of a green cast to your image. Nothing major, just a little bit green.

Now that you said green, I know what it is. I don't know why I couldn't see it myself. I used flourescent lighting! I'm going to reshoot tonight and I will adjust my white balance accordingly.

Maybe put some fall leaves instead of flowers.

I really like the photo for what it is and how it is done. 3 thumbs up. However, I would be tempted to lighten it just a little for a card

Here's the original-

I think the original would make a better card because its less harsh than the adjusted one.

I disagree. I think the updated version is 100% better. The added contrast really adds a little extra spark to the image. You lose a lot of the richness in the flowers and other parts of the pumpkin if you leave it the way it was.

I agree with you on this choice. The updated version has some of that extra brightness I was looking for. And I prefer the way the green leaves pop out just a little more.

I agree too. My first thought was that it was very dark. Even the lightened-up version is still dark -- the pumpkin is better, but I think the leaves blend into the background. If you're going to print this on a home printer, that will be even more of an issue.

If you are going to reshoot anyway, perhaps you could add a very very diffused light above and to the left of the layout. That might help add color to the flowers and leaves and should still leave the background dark and keep the highlight on the pumpkin. Just a thought.

Thank you puppet 10 for taking the time to do this. I totally like your version better! I couldn't take an new version without the green tint because my flowers are wilted and all the leaves are dried out. Guess I should have put it in water?:) Anyway, I'm going back to my original photo in PS and will try to get it as close to yours as possible. It really is much, much better!

Everybody else...thank you so much for your help.

Hi Joann
I like the picture very much though find it very dark, even on the brightened version.
If you do reshoot would be worth looking into lighting options.
Also, I have to say I am not keen on the orange border and shape of border but that's just a personal preference.
Nice work!

Thank you for helping Kavey. I don't like the border either because I think it's too thick. I am going to reduce the size.

You are going to LOVE it. I've had mine for 4 months and am still surprising myself with new features.

You shouldn't have to do much to get what I did. All I did was run autoequalize on it (in Corel PhotoPaint, I don't know what its called in PS - but I can't imagine it doesnt have that function).

All this does is equalize the histogram so it starts at black and ends at white spread evenly in between. Or according to the Help file...

Auto Equalize command

The Auto Equalize command performs a flat equalization on your image by
redistributing the significant pixel values of your image through the
tonal range automatically. The effect is the same as if you open the
Level Equalization filter, enable the Auto-Adjust check box, and click
OK (except that you skip a few steps).

In Photoshop, I believe the equivalent is Auto-Levels : ) ...
