Right now the way I feel I would LOVE to be back here fishing .... Instead I am in Rainy Tokyo with no milk in the fridge, a very swollen toe that stops me walking too far, and in 1 hour they gonna turn the water off for 4 hours to fix a leak in the system.... C'mon who's coming to FUKUSHIMA with me for a nice fishing trip?

Very embaressing but here goes - cut my toe nail and there was a piece hanging on so i pulled it off and it tore down the side of the toe and now i have what i believe is called a 'Whittlow' basically it means my toe is swollen to 2X as big and if i even touch it it hurts, i have to wait until its ready to be cut aparently and the infection inside squeezed out... not looking foward to that day.

I am working as an Oracle Database/Cisco Network Administrator in Shinagawa.
Amateur photographer but definitely I would be happy to go shooting together. I am in Coffee Shop challenge and crazy excited ! Can't stop hitting the Refresh button ! :)

Sorry to hear about your toe. Hope it will be OK! Ganbattene! :)

Mazui! Yeah, gambatte through that one, man. I actually broke the big toe on my left foot right before leaving Japan. I tripped over the latch that opens the door to our basement. Apparently, foreign photographers living in Japan are prone to stupid foot mishaps. :-) Happy squeezing!

It's a lovely picture, alionic. Be even more lovely if you rotated clockwise three fourths of a degree or so, it feels skewed counterclockwise to me. Sorry about the toe.

Thanks Mr Bear could you please explain how to do that, I may just be missunderstanding what you mean but I'de love to see what you would do to it. I can only imagine that you mean the horizon is not straight but Im always doing that mistake anyway.. please let me know when you get the time thanx

He meant rotate the entire photo clockwise by 3 or 4 degrees.

I agree...I would not really like to be that man right now, since it appears from the photo that he's getting ready to slide right off the left side of the world in the crooked water. In simple terms...horizons off, straighten it. :)

I've just come back from a daytrip to Tokyo. I went to Odaiba, crossing the Rainbow Bridge on the monorail. I hope I got some good shots (haven't downloaded them yet onto the other computer).
I shot some lake scenes last weekend here when it was sunny (it's last year's photo). I guess it's not fishing season now as there was no sign of any fishermen then.

OK I tried to straighten it up but my ears are knackered my eyes are old and bent.

Hey, Marac, here's the trick for leveling a horizon in Photoshop:

1. Select the Measure tool. It's the ruler icon beneath the eyedropper in the tool bar.
2. Use it to draw a line that runs right along the horizon in the photo. If the horizon is a little crooked, then the line will also be a little crooked.
3. Go up to the menu and select Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary.
4. The number that you will see in the Angle field will be set by the Measure line that you just drew. Just click the Okay button.
5. Your image will rotate to give you a perfect horizon line. Just crop the photo to fix the corners.
6. Put 100 yen in an envelope and mail it to me. Repeat each time you use this technique. ;-)

Actually, I believe that I read this technique here on DPC and it works great. Let me know if you have any questions.

Actually I said three fourths (3/4) of a degree.

That looks pretty good :-) The technique mentioned by Philip Dyer is the best way to quickly level a horizon, btw.

Nice pic. I might suggest that you soak your toe in warm water that has had either some epsom salts, or regular salt in it. Strong salt water washes can be fairly mild ways of helping keep a wound (especially an infected one) clean and help it recover.

Bateria cannot live in very salty environments. Which is largely why salt has been so valuable as a preservative for so long.

If you want to try to lessen the infection, some people use baking soda poultices. This can help a little, but isn't the best method out there. All you have to do is get a bunch of baking soda on there and wet it with clean water. pile it up and gently bandage it on with the back of a clean sock or something. I've had mixed results with this sort of thing, but when it works, it's rather amazing the stuff that is drawn out into the baking soda. Or disgusting, you choose the adjective.

It's not harmful and it can naturally relieve pressure and infection before undergoing surgery.

When I was a fair bit younger, I had ingrown toenails on both big toes. It was less than fun. The worst thing was that infection blocks the anaesthetic affect of local drugs, so when my toe was operated on, it was without anaethesia. Eeyow. I wish I had known about this then.
