And I am sure your leaving comments for all those ones! After identifying yourself as a 1 giver, you may find a few people interested in your comments!

As for the votes, please remember not only red and green are complimentary. If in doubt consult a color wheel. If many people got complimentary colors wrong when they took their photographs, then they will more than likely get it wrong when they vote on complimentary photographs.

I'm beginning to wonder how many voters know what a color wheel is, much less what colors are complementary.....

Down again! .... I was really hoping for a bit higher. I agree with everyone here on the color wheel. I DID use it when I took my picture. Many I voted on didn't use complementary colors IMO which lowered their score. Does someone actually watch the scores? especially if someone is giving all 1's on entries that actually "fit" the challenge as I've read here? I would hate to think someone is that malicious.

Slow death march...haven't played in two months...lowest score in a year. But perhaps it's a good thing, because I was getting too focused on score. Of course, I don't have any comments or favs either, so I am bombing on all counts!

I'll start with the fact that I did not consult a colour wheel nor did I even think of it. I kind of knew I was taking a risk with my shot but I'm soooo addicted to the update button, I couldn't go without my fix. Based on my score, it's going to be a long week.

I guess I should be happy with that since my very first vote was a 1. I think I'm going to approach this as a good photo with a bad decision to think it belonged in this challenge. At least I have a favorite and the comment gave me an indication that the photo itself is good. Live and learn, right?!??!?

Not a ribbon, but a healthy start.

Red, Blue, Yellow are the primaries - aren't they? I think this challenge is going to be skewed by a difference of opinion on the definition. The two colors I used for my subject are directly across on the color wheel, yet i've had comments that they don't fit the definition of "complementary".

Oh, well. This is my first challenge, and i'm here to learn!

I'm in total agreement than so many do NOT meet the challenge and since the coloration is the specific challenge title, then I'm voting down if it does not have complementary colors. If it is an excellent shot and doesn't meet the challenge, you still might get a mid range score due to focus, composition, subject matter, etc. But saying that, the highest "does not meet the challenge but is an excellent photograph technically, etc." got a 6.

(Bolding mine.) It seems that quite a few DPCers have different ideas on what complementary colors consist of.

The complementary colors that artists who paint know and love are as follows:

Red/Green
Blue/Orange
Yellow/Purple

So, yes, Red/Green are complementary colors, but so are the others listed.

(Green, in the painter's lexicon, is a secondary color obtained by mixing Blue and Yellow)

I can see the challenge being a total disaster! When I looked up the definition of "Complementary Colors" it went something like this:

There are 3 primary colors...Red, Blue and Yellow. Complements to each of these are the mixture of the other two. Which goes like this:

RED & (Yellow + Blue) = GREEN
BLUE & (Yellow + Red) = ORANGE
YELLOW & (Red + Blue) = PURPLE

I've seen a lot of these combinations in this challenge, so I'm not the only one that understands "Complementary Colors" in this way. This is however how I'm scoring. Based on your explaination of Complementary Colors, I can clearly see there are very different ideas...!

And my image which has Green & Red, which is the only combination on everyones definiation of this challenge is doing quite poorly, which is suprising because it is a pretty good shot. Can't help it wonder why it can't even break the '5' mark.

Wow, this sure seems to be true. Lots of pretty pictures that don't even come close to complementary colors...!

I agree too. Someone even PM'd me and said black and white were complementary colours.....obviously I had commented on his/her photo.

I'm crossing my fingers and toes. Mine is as complimentary as can be no doubt about it. It's been a roller coaster ride since last night. I'll have to wait and see :)

I have been left a comment that my photo does not meet the challenge, but I especially checked a site for the correct complimentary colors and my photo has the exact colours - won't say which colors or you'd guess my photo!! //www.colourtherapyhealing.com/colour/complementary_colours.php

This was a fun image and I expected lower score here, but I was thinking of getting more comments, but that also failed :(
I tried something similar for 'Independence' challenge by submitting a fly macro :D

Yeah, I just got doen voting and noticed that about half of them weren't even complimentary, lol.

People need to learn their color wheel...haha.

Mine is doing good, right around the 6 range. Pretty good for only my thrid challenge. We'll just have to wait and see, all I want is a top 1/3 finish really.
