Screen resolution in another context -- this is from the end of a longish article on how televisions are simultaneously getting both larger and smaller ... I thought it was pretty funny wrap-up.

The full article is here, but you might have to register with the NY Times:

To watch a big, high-quality set is to be pleasantly overwhelmed: the picture engulfs your entire field of vision, tempting you to surrender to the sheer force of the images. (Viewers of these sets "tend to not change channels as often," Mr. Tice said. "They're more involved in that program and less likely to switch away.")

But on a small set, you loom over the inch-tall figures, cupping them in your hands, and your fingers never leave the buttons that control them. As new as the sensation is, there's something familiarly televisionlike about it, and then you realize: what you're doing, in effect, is watching a remote control.

Old as in need the larger print? ;)
I run the same on my 19" CRT, and also have to F11. I set my entries at 640 wide if landscape, 600 if portrait to try and avoid some of that as i have received comments and PMs that part of the initial impact was missed because the image had to be scrolled to be seen.

As to small pics - some folks do submit tiny ones, as in thumbnail sized at times. 1 or 2 per challenge is normal.

1680x1050 on a Dell 20" LCD Widescreen which is the same screen used on Apple's 20" WS. The Dell has more inputs.

Of course its connected to an Apple ;-)

On my main workstation - three 21" crt's at 1600x1200, two 16" crts at 1024x768 and one 15"tft at 1280x1024 (just for irc, mind you). If dpc shots look too small to make out at 1280x1024, your monitor is too small :)
