What is the difference between a Snapshot and a Candid?
I understand the difference between a Snapshot and _____ (what is the opposite of a Snapshot called anyhow?) is that a Snapshot has no premeditation or planning and such is evident in the photo.
A Candid is a shot that is taken of a moment that has no premeditation or planning (?)
Uhm. I'm a little confused.
Please help little uneducated me get a clearer understanding of these classifications of photos.
Thank you! |

i'd say that a candid is a premeditated shot without the subject knowing you are planning something.

A snapshot is a picture that is taken in haste or quickly without much thought to the composition, background, etc.
A candid is just as longlivenyhc said, "i'd say that a candid is a premeditated shot without the subject knowing you are planning something."

I think of a snapshot as having less artistic value and is more just about capturing the moment (like what you do with a disposable camera). And the others have described a candid shot very well.

Snapshot:
"Hey!" *click*
Candid:
"Aha... Interesting... Hmm... Let's see... Aaaaaand..." *click*
I could make a fortune writing dictionary entries :-)
