Is it just me or is it the challenge? I've never given so many 7's and above since I've been voting. Am I lowering my standards or has the quality improved? There are so many technically great shots I'm having trouble commenting and differentiating between 8, 9, and 10. It is actually easier to comment when there are problems with the shots. But how many ways can you say "great shot" or "good techs"? I need help on separating these higher scored ones. It is really hard to pick a number one. I plan to enter a lot of these in "my favorites". This problem sure doesn't belong under "rants". Guess I should be glad to have such a problem. Got any suggestions to help a new voter? PTL

I may have just answered part of my question. I went back and looked at them all - those I've voted on and those I haven't. With so many submissions there were so many I really liked that they naturally got good scores. So far I've voted on most that I really like. Another one or two may jump out later, such as my choice for 1st place did today. I think the more submissions on a good challenge the more high scores I give. I vote on technology of photography but let's face it we all give a lot of score on our own likes and preferences for the subjects and photos..

It's been suggested by some that if you give a ball park score to every thing then you can adjust the scores again when you review them. I do a little of this. Looking at all the 7s at once I can usually spot a few that, to me, don't fit in the group and I shift them accordingly. HTH

Do you go back in after voting and then change some of your votes in that group? What happenes if you want to lower a score, based on the others in that group? I've started signing my vote. It was suggested that helped the photographers during the voting. Maybe sign it half way through the week? Just looking for help so I can be of better help to the photographers. I'm here to learn and improve my own photography and haven't gotten gutsy enough to submit yet.

Same here. And yet I've watched my own score slowly and painfully crash and burn....

Ah well. At least it's a learning experience.

PT? have you scrolled down pass the entries to see where your choices are gourped? Each picture still retains the number spread under it so you can simply click on any score you feel is right. It is also possible to make more than one comment.

Give yourself a break, there is nothing life or death about the vote. YOu will catach on. *grin*

I totally agree! There are so many very good photos this week. I, too, was thinking how unusual it is to have so many. It really makes voting fun when there are so many great images to see. Good thing we don't have to rank them!

I think you hit it on the head. With more submissions you get more quality photos AND more low scoring pics. I've given what seems like a ton of 4s this week - mostly for photos that would be 5s but don't have anything in focus.
I'm not one of those people who only gives one 10. I don't think that makes much sense because of the way all the scores are averaged. My favorites rarely end up in the top 3 so only giving one 10 doesn't help anyone and only limits my scoring.
One thing that probably really helped this week was the topic. It's much easier to "meet" this sort of challenge than some of the others.

I guess it's not that easy to meet the challenge Indi. I got a comment on my shot indicating that the shot wasn't a macro and doubted it was even a closeup. While they liked the shot they didn't think it met the challenge. What's funny is the object in my shot is only 2 inches high and my focus was 1.18 inches away. I couldn't get closer without hitting my lens on my subject. Eye of the beholder I guess.

I know which one was your and my comment was to that effect of the measuring stick by it. I loved it. It was up close and personnal. You did great. The ruler added 4 points for me. You meet it and then some.

There's no way I could rank them. Besides I'll see one and be so sure it will be number 1 and guess what - see another one I think is not technically better. Both are 10's but esthetically or "wow" wise better and am sure it will be # 1. Like last week. I still think #1 shuld have been 1st place. Yes I agree it should have had some pulled off but it had the "Wow" the exciting beauty, the eye appeal, and the technically correctness. In other words it had "more" right going for it than the other. Not that the other wasn't good. See why it is so much fun to vote on lots of photos.

You mean yours wasn't magical? Sorry I thought that was the one you meant. But I always sign my scores now with PTL. So you know what I commented.

PTL you know you don't have to rank them and only give one a ten. You can give several tens if they all deserve it.
you already gave mine a ten...so I'm hoping you don't change your mind :)

Maybe it's because I've scored the ones I liked first and am hitting the low ones now. I've voted on over half so far and have only a few 4 or lower. Guess I reall have little left to do but make comments. At least the lower scored ones are easier to comment on.

I don't change my mind on the 10's. It is very hard for me to give a 10. 9 times out of 10 I'll give it a 9 instead. It has to have it all for me to give it a 10. Pazazz, personal appeal, beauty, techs right - in my opinion, "wow", all of it. That's why I usually give less than 10 10's if we have as few as 150 pics. Wonder which one yours was. I could make an exception for you if you'd like and lower it. Of course you should be laughing on that. Yours must have been really good. PTL

Went back and looked at your last ones. You're getting better in my scores consistently. Hard to get above the 9 on knock on wood and that was one I had a hard time not giving a 10. See what I mean by don't give 10's easily? You're also more in my appeal range. PTL
