Would you consider a picture taken with the angle of the camera pointing upwards satisfying the challenge or does it have to be obvious that the camera was set on the ground or show the "ground" to be acceptable?

Definition of from the ground up;-
where you look up from after drinking too much alcoholic beverage!

Here's the previous challenge, so you don't have to look it up...

Unfortunately... because of my body type... when I do keel over... it's usually face down. hehehehehe

You should defintely include the ground, and of preference there should be a snail or a slug on it :-)

I think if you are close to the ground that will work, and to me this means closer than just sitting on the ground.

I'm having a dilemma on this challenge definition. I have a photo I'd really like to enter, that I think clearly relates to an interpretation of "from the ground up." The ground and up, yes, you'd definitly think that if you saw the photo. However, it's not taken actually looking up. I did not lay or sit on the ground and aim towards the sky to take it. Obviously I can't really explain without giving away anonymity.

I had decided to pull the photo and just put it in my portfolio because it was missing the point of the theme, but then I went back and looked at the results the first time this challenge topic was used. One of the top finishers was this image by arnit.

My subject is not anything like a geyser, but it's similar in that it's not a laying-on-the-ground-POV shot. He got a lot of comments that people liked his different interpretation (and a couple suggesting he hadn't met the challenge.)

I don't know what to do. Am I delibrately being annoying entering my photo? Or will people be glad to see something not totally OFF topic, but maybe not precisely on, or that at least isn't another shot of someone looking up at buildings or trees (what I expect to see a zillion of...)

I think it is quite clear, from the ground up...it ain't brain surgery or rocket science!

Get down low and look up, shot and that is it.

@ turquoise919: today I saw an entry in the "bubbles"-challenge and was very surprised to see something else.

my opinion: something like the geyser would be very nice. but I can understand your dilemma..

edit: sorry, wrong membername!

So you're saying that geyser photo doesn't meet the challenge? Despite the high placing, it was inappropriately entered?

Does it go from ground up?? If so it meets the challenge?

I think that the average voter now is very savvy about meeting the challenge compared to when that was taken.

You notice now when a challenge is announced we have a endless debate about definitions of individual words in a challenge description.

I personally think a shot like that will not score as high this time around.

Yes, that's what I was thinking also. Ambiguities were less important back when the challenges didn't have 400 entries apiece and now DNMC is such an easy way to decide on a vote.

Bummer. I guess I probably won't enter.

Imo tourquoise, it's definitely more important to try and push your own boundaries, and this involves attacking themes that challenge you and taking shots that you enjoy. You'll learn more by trying to break the mould.*

Just do it! ;)

[* incidentally, may be a case of 'do as i say, not as i do' :) ]

Hey Karl,
Thanks for the picture and the vote of encouragement. I've been around DPC long enough to know how things work around here. After my poor showing in the Conspiracy challenge I guess I was being a little anal about definitions. The shot I plan to enter is definitely one looking up and I like it so I am going to enter it regardless!!!
