bump just to make sure everyone knows that tomorrow's GTG is cancelled. Let's hope for nice weather next weekend!

Well I changed to the right date :)

I'm looking forward to the beautiful scenery and waterfalls, and meeting you all!

OK, I'm officially cancelling this Saturday's GTG (do I have that authority???). At the moment, I believe that we are only planning for Sunday, Oct. 16th at this point. If there are people interested in doing the 15th as well, I'm game, but the main event is for the 16th.

I know that there were a few requests to do Taughannock on the 16th, so I think that needs to be in our agenda. Treman is good, too. The lower falls at Buttermilk are very easy to get to (no hiking) so we might as well plan a stop there. Would it still make sense to meet at Stewart Park at sunrise (7:20 am)? We could then head down to Treman to meet up with Mavrik after his photo shoot ends at 10am. Then stop at Buttermilk on the way to get lunch. Have a picnic lunch at the Treman boat marina on the southwest end of the lake (on the way to Taughannock). Then do Taughannock in the afternoon. How does that sound?

The original post in this thread has been updated with my current list of attendees. Should I start another thread at this point?

I think that's a great idea.

What's the best time of day to shoot these locations? I want to maximize my photo opportunities.

I think that depends on what you're looking for.

Stewart Park forms the Southwest corner of the lake, and the lake goes north by northwest from there. I think sunrise will create some nice mist and lighting affects on the trees and the western hills.

The gorge in Treman goes basically west to east from top to bottom, but the lighting is going to be mixed because you're surrounded by cliff walls. Butterflysis may be able to give you more info about this since she just shot there recently.

Buttermilk falls faces almost due west I think, so afternoon sun would light it well. Late afternoon might be too harsh, though.

Taughannock Falls faces almost due east, but it's situated in a deep bowl. So I'm not really sure how the lighting plays in there.

Also, Ithaca is renowned for its cloudiness. We've had an extremely sunny past few months, so chances are it's going to be cloudy anyway.

And I'm hoping you'll share some of those cool abstract techniques you've mastered.

Thank you Kadi for calling me and letting me know.

I hadn't checked in yet tonight and probably wouldn't have if you hadn't called. I'm totally bummed and depressed. But I will survive until tomorrow.

As Kadi can attest to, I NEED THIS GET A WAY! She got to listen to me yell at my kids several times and only two of them are here at the time. Soon to be one, I'm sending the oldest to her friend's house so it will just be me and James tomorrow, that I can handle.

Good thing I didn't pack my lunch yet

You're welcome.
Sent you an Email.
Escape while you can!
(Yes, the volume at Neufer's house is very different than at mine...the most annoying thing here is the din of the Yankee fans on TV...and hubby has it turned down.)
I have rainy-day post-processing lined up for the weekend. Otherwise, I might be tempted to trek to Ithaca tomorrow. But all are welcome to swing by Bingo-ville and drag me away from this screen. :-)

One last bump for any late nighters who haven't heard that tomorrow's GTG is cancelled.

Just so we are all on the same page, we are going next Sunday even if it's pouring buckets and sheets of rain? Okay? We can go play at the Science Center or to a nearby mall for all I care but I will be at the park on Sunday the 16th no matter what!

Who ended up working today, that sucked

Yes. I will come rain or shine. I've always wanted to play at the Science Center! (Not so keen on malls...but I like shopping on the Commons and visiting the gallery at Cornell.)

Who ended up lying about today because she didn't feel well.
(Coulda sucked, but it didn't because no one was out having fun without me...)

That's the plan. If you have a cell phone and want to pm me, I can give you call on Sunday when we're headed over to Treman.
10/09/2005 01:41:10 PM · #139
We don't actually have a cell yet. Um...which end of Treman will you be coming in on? Are we walking the length with cars on both ends or ?

I'm with KaDi on some people parking at the top, some people parking at the bottom and sort of shuttling the drivers from one end to the other once we're done. I'm going to start at the top so our vehicle will be at the top. Maybe Neuf can drive to the bottom with someone else, leave her car there, and then ride up with that other driver to the top, do our walk to the bottom to Neufs car, she can drive the drivers back up to the top...that works! (if ANYONE understood what I just said, you're amazing!)

I think top to bottom would be a good thing, esp. if one of the locals goes. He has bad knees so not sure he could go up.

...hmmm, I imagine I'll be there much earlier than this. Or is Treman different than Stewart Park?
10/09/2005 02:38:43 PM · #142
yes it's different - you guys are starting at Stewart Park earlier. I have a bridal portrait shoot from 9 til 10 or 10:15, so I'll be at Treman doing that then we'll walk the length of Treman top to bottom and then go somewhere else (Buttermilk Falls?) and do some touring around a bit.

Treman is different than Stewart.
mavrik is doing a wedding shoot and we'll be meeting up with him in the late morning. If I understand it correctly, we'll be at Stewart Park no later than 7:20 a.m. for sunrise....I plan to be there before 7. Then we'll be stopping somewhere else before we meet mavrik at Treman.
According to mavrik's statement, I'm "amazing," since I understood exactly what he said. I'm sure we can work out the car thing--have mini-van will travel.
Down is good for others of us, so let's plan to start at the top of Treman. (If that's alright with our organizer, equsite, that is.)
10/09/2005 02:49:44 PM · #144
Cool, I'm also amazing! I understood him too! I know, UNREAL!

I would be happy to leave my van at the bottom, it seats 7 with some room to spare so I could make sure everyone makes it back to the top!

Deannda
Would also rather walk down than up anyday
10/09/2005 05:58:47 PM · #145
I understand him....uh, mostly!

:) We'll have our minivan at the top so we'll be able to carry some people around if necessary. Gotta remember to take the car seat out tho!

You and me both, LOL!

I also have to put the middle seat back in, it's two bucket seats and one of them sits in my office unless I need it, makes it easier for me to get into the back area when needed.

Is anybody staying in the hotel for this GTG? If so, then where?

I live about an hour away, though I would love an excuse to stay in a hotel Saturday night just to really have a night and day off, LOL! :)

Deannda
But alas, I cannot afford that, not after the last expenses

I think nshapiro is staying at the Hampton Inn in Cortland. That's a good location -- about 1/2 hour from Ithaca and right off the Interstate.
