Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Spain next week. I intent on donig a few Glamour photoshoots (see my portfolio for reference on what I do).
I am looking for great locations to shoot at.
I will most probably do bikini shoots, and perhaps mild nudity.

I will start the trip in Madrid, which is center of Spain. So I can go pretty much anywhere at drivnig distance. I have found this great location: Monastero de Piedra .
I'm affraid it's very touristic though and I wonder if I will get away with shooting a glam model in that location.

If you know of locations, I'd appreciate the tips!

Thank you.

edit: I am also looking for deserts. I don't know if there are any in Spain, but if you know any (and with urls and/or photos to show as reference), I'd really want to hear about it. thanks!

Hi DrJones,

I don't really know if you have a certain backdrop in mind but I can almost picture quite a different perspective of nudes against the Gaudi architecture in Barcelona. You may have heard of Gaudi, an eccentric architect who left a lot of his mark in Barcelona. It would be interesting to see what you could come up with as his style is very mosaique, often busy and very very original - eccentric like him!

Thanks Eileen, I will do some googling on Gaudi in Barcelona.
Meanwhile, if you see specific web site whith photos as reference, I'd love to hear about them.
Thanks!

I doubt you are going to get away with any of your style in front of a Gaudi building. They are in the midst of tourist barcelona and on very busy streets.

Barcelona does have a decent beach which is topless. It is likely to look like most other beaches however.

If you are going to do some Googling, try "gold coast" or "Costa del sol". I have not been, but I hear that area is beautiful. It's a vast stretch so you may find something both more secluded and more beautiful.

In the old part of Madrid there's a classic street called Cava Baja where there is a Flamenco Bar La Solea, no dancers....just blazing guitars. Medievel Madrid(that area in beautiful in itself)

It was the best experience...well, beyond words.

For shooting the place is totally original, loaded with gitanos, students and very few (almost no)tourists. People volunteer to sing balads while the patrons clap, tap or bang in 3/4 time. There are two different rooms where this all goes down. One room had more singing by old timers and the other room had up to three guitarists at a time conversing with their instruments. Lotta smoke...lotta Sherry.

I lived in Madrid for a few years. If you are going to shoot flamenco, concentrate on the hands, faces, and overall body posture. It is a fascinating art form, one which I very much enjoy. It can be very sexy, but isn't necessarily. Very disciplined (controlled?) in the sense of a professional dancer controlling precisely what they do with their bodies. It will be difficult because of low lighting and dynamic motion but worth the effort. Maybe explain you are a famous Canadian photographer with a worldwide portfolio and audience and you can arrange a private shoot!

Good luck.

If you want desert, then Almeria is your destination, as it happens to have the only desert in Europe.

Hi DrJones,

Near Madrid you can find beautiful locations in Segovia, I highly recommend "La Granja". It is just 77 km from Madrid. It is a royal palace with huge a beautiful gardens french style. You can also find if you are interested medieval villages like "Pedraza".

I know very well "Monasterio de Piedra". You are right, normally in weekends there are too much tourist to work properly in nude or seminudity but if you go can ask a normal day to have some special o private time probably early in the morning. They are kind people. It is a beautiful place but its beauty is based on water and we are suffering this year a severe drought. It would be advisable to be informed before.

Near "Monasterio de Piedra" you can find a desert in the way Madrid to Barcelona called "Monegros". Road NII. The landscape is very similar to California. You can look up something on the internet.

In Barcelona you can get all you need for glamourous photos, the city itself, architecture, people, sun, near beaches...

Places informed by Tycho are not near Madrid but there are superb.

You should PM alexis berenguer - he lives in Spain and knows the lay of the land pretty well. He's one of the best people I know too. :)
