Lowest score to date. I need a lot of work.

Strange scoring indeed.. I have seen my score go from 5.9 down to 5.2 back to 5.7. Normally I see it calm down about 1 day into the voting, then crawl back up on the last day. I think the number of entries and the numerous intepretations of perspective are doing this.

Have had nothing be great comments though.

I expect to finish where I normally finish.. mid 5s to maybe upper 5s.

Barely holding in the 6 range. I thought it would have climbed a little bit more by now. Was up in the 6.12 range late last night. Comments are coming in quite well for such a large number of entries and I have a favourite, which is always good to see. Gotta start voting on this one.

Still no comments...I have only gotten through maybe 15% of my voting, but I've commented on about 40 photos...and have found a couple of favorites too. I know I should give it some time for comments on mine to roll in due to the high number of submittals...so I guess I'll get back to voting!

the votes coming in very slowly because of the large no. of entries, but I am happy to get 13 comments out of the 126 votes. That's a healthy ratio for such large no. of entries

I am still waiting on my comments but I have noticed a pattern. Seems the higher the score, the more comments recieved. I understand there are many entries but even in other challenges it seems to follow the same path.

Am I totally off base here?

Out of the 7 comments, 5 said they either like or love something about it. *shrug*

You are right, normally that is the case. Also if you submit something terrible, you can get large no. of comments :)

Nope. You're absolutely correct. Typically DPCers tend to comment on the "really good ones" and the "really bad ones". If it's perfectly executed more people tend to leave you comments. On the flip side, if its too small or too blurry or has nothing to do with the challenge at all - keyboards start rattling for comments.

I for one can attest to this. This image was DQed unfortunately but since it makes for a "feel good" and "hot and heavy" image, I got so much comments. I eventually placed fourth but was DQed :(

Similarly, a photo that is currently in the portraits challenge was taken very haphazardly and I submitted for the pure fun of it (not minding scores and such) is receiving my second highest number of comments to date.

An average image such as this one didn't really garner too many comments.

Just my two cents.

I usually on comment on the mediocre shots that I think had more potential. I'd rather build up than tear down most of the time. The people who are going to place in the top 20 don't really need back slapping from the newbie likes of me, so I just comment on my very favorites.

When someone who knows waht to do (but doesn't) just enters something for the heck of it, it kind of muddies the water don't you think? I mean, with so many entries lately, why enter the crap you did in five minutes knowing that it will score low?

I say give the voters a break and enter something worth their time and consideration if you're not a newbie looking to improve.

I'm assuming you're referring to my posted response to AzCKelly regarding my image that was submitted haphazardly? When I mean by haphazard I don't mean to say that I entered a photo that was poorly executed or had small pixel dimensions. I submitted an image that was a soft focus and in my opinion is a haphazard entry considering my other previous entries.

As you grow with the group and hopefully maybe eventually sign up as a member, you'll have that update button that everyone talks about. You become obssessed about your scores and at times it becomes quite testing specially if you think your image is worth a lot more. I've entered a few challenges and have always ran into this problem of being too critical with my scores. My entry in the Portrait challenge was a bit different. I entered for the pur fun of it as I mentioned and not minding or being too critical about my scores. It's a nice change - for once as I seemingly enjoyed the comments from my fellow DPCers.

There's always room for improvement and I still highly consider myself a newbie as are you. However, this is still supposed to be fun and enjoyable. From the looks of my comments, I say people enjoyed looking at my image and saw the real "me".

I wish I could get more comments. I worked hard on this and even though I know it was EXACTLY what I had in mind, I'm SURE some of you know what I could have done to pull it off.

I'd take a favorite over a higher score anyday. :-)

Yeah, I guess thats pretty cool.

I'd also like a breakdown of scores given by people of different personal averages, rather than w/ or w/o a camera and commenters. I'd like to know if people who take better overall pictures like my stuff better or worse than someone who has little talent.
