Here the first picture from my new 80-200mm f/2.8. This is my father in law at the 41km of a 42km marathon. I have to congratulate him for his performance because I know I can't run more than 5km before collapsing.
I think his face show a lot of emotion/pain.
I'd like some comment on this picture. It's plenty bright on my LCD monitor but too dark on my old CRT. Does it look ok on your monitor?
Thanks

His cap seems to be shading his face a bit much. Some fill in flash might've fixed. |

I didn't had time to switch on the flash but it would have helped with the shadows.
I am very interested to know how the brightness of this picture looks on your monitor because I have a hard time calibrating my monitors. |

if your using a 200mm zoom then I'm assuming he was far enough away that a flash wouldn't have helped much anyway right? Most built ins are only good for about 3 ft.
I think it's good potrait and the shadow from his cap makes it look natural. On my monitor the colors and brightness are good.
Good job!!

I am pretty happy with this lens. The bokeh is quite impresive. Even though the focus is not as fast as the AFS version, it's fast enough and about 10 faster than my 70-210 f/4 which was slower than thick molasses :). |

Yeah...I've never had an issue with it. Yours is the f/2.8D ED version, correct, and not the older one, right?
I think at f/2.8 the camera has a built in mode that trips and it uses a faster AF algorithm or something...You upgraded your firmware to the latest version, right?

I usually ALWAYS am shooting mine at f/2.8 -- I know some lenses sweet spot is a stop or two from wide open aperture, but this one (from personal experience, and through research) is sharp right from the get go.

I think the shadowing from the cap is ok, yeah in a perfect world getting rid of the shadows on location during the shot would be perfect but hey! That's why God invented Photoshop!
The lens takes nice shots (apparently the shooter does too!). Congrats to your FIL.

Yes, it's the two ring f2.8D ED. I upgraded the firmware some time ago. In AF-C mode, it's quite responsive. I didn't try using dynamic focus yet, don't know if it would have helped me today. I sure have to improve my tracking technique.
F/2.8 is quite good on this lens. Also, on a DSLR body, the corner light falloff is not an issue. And I bought it for that aperture; I am a bit of a shallow DOF fanatic... sometime, I have to remind myself that the smaller apertures are there for a reason :).
