Yup! When you've stumbled into the bathroom at night in the dark and almost fallen down the hole then you'll prolly want the seat put down too!

she may fall in

Seriously, because it is expected that the seat will be down. And when a girl sits down with the seat up, she gets a VERY unpleasant surprise - unexpected cold and a sensation of falling in. Funny, I just had to explain this to my husband again last night.

I second what moodville said. Nothing worse than falling in the cold water when you're trying to stay half asleep :) Plus it's just gross to have to touch the seat to put it down.

For one thing, they have to touch it before they can use it, introducing both sanitation and timing issues. However, I have it on pretty good authority that they hate it even more if you never put the seat up in the first place : )

Yes, it is defintitely true. We even have a sign at work in the bathroom. My take on the subject is when did it become the guys fault, and why is it that the proper position is down??? I say, those darn women, I hate it when I go in the bathroom and they've left the seat down! When will they ever learn!!! :-)

Mine claims she fell in (butt first of course) once because I left it up. So now I have to shut it everytime. Wouldn't want to be responsible for her drowning now would I?

To all men: stop pissing while standing up. you are splashing pissy water all over the place. take a seat. relax. let the urine flow. shake your dew in the bowl, not the floor.

Yes, it is worse if the man never puts the seat up at all. Especially if that man is really a young child with poor aim.

Ah, but why is it not just as gross to have to touch it to put it up, and touch it again to put it down? ;-)
But then again, us men are just pigs anyways... if you ask most guys, they would probably just as soon go outside and avoid the issue all together !!! :-P

Actually, I was taught urine is not that un-sanitary as it seems. In first aid training in the navy, we were always taught, when treating a protruding abdominal wound, the next best thing to use to moisten the battle dressing if you don't have bottled, sterilized water is , yes, to urinate on it. It is preferred even over drinking water out of the tap. (not trying to be gross, but it is the truth)

I hear ya there! lol
I have two boys...they're a little older now (16 and 10) so it's not quite as bad as when they were little! :)

What if you think about it this way:

When women go to the bathroom they have to sit down no matter what, therefore it is significantly less work for them to reach behind them on the way down to make sure that the toilet seat is there to meet them.

Men, on the other hand, probably 75% of the time are standing up, which makes it significantly more work to bend down, lift the toilet seat, do your thing, then put it back down.

We can conclude, therefore, that the toilet seat ought to be left up in an effort to conserve energy.

now do you see why assuming things can get you into situations?

I don't see what the big deal is... Just check before you sit down, how hard could that be?

i actually saw that on doctor sue that urine was sterile directly from the body.

Ya gotta work on their aim while they're young. With my boys, we used to put cheerios in the bowl and have target practice! Great toilet training tool :-)

this is correct, there are no sanitation issues from urine.

this is because we all know that women really rule the house and what we say goes! ;) and really.. when you walk into someones bathroom and the seat is up.. dont you just think.. ew gross!! .. i know i do!
and that whole falling into the toilet thing.. if you guys knew what it felt like you wouldnt have such and issue with putting it down! another point..

how often do you go into at show room with toilets and the seats are all up? you cant sit on it if the seat is up.. you dont sit on a folded chair do you? ;)

that would be a good challenge "seat up or down"?
09/08/2005 11:33:51 PM · #22
how about this one

pee male stand
pee female sit
poo male sit
poo female sit

so unless gues are going to start pooing standing up, the majority rules and the sit is put down when males pee.

Oh and girls, i have found the solution to the "my man leaves the seat up" is this: Every time you walk into the bathrrom to do your business and the seat is up - particularly in the middle of the night you stand and hollar and scream until the male of your life comes to put the seat down for you. You get them up at 3am a couple of times this way and they quickly adapt to putting the seat down.

Who wants to sit on a cold dunny in the middle of the night when it has pee drops around it? Guys, why don't you try it out and see how nice and comfy it feels?...:-)

I put the seat down and the lid from habit as you know what little kids can be like, they are tempted to drop toys in there, and try to fish them out right away.

whats a dunny???? I thought it was a boat....

Now my thinking is that if I were a girl, I'd want the seat to be left up all the time, then I put it down when I needed it, and I wouldn't have to worry about pee drops!
