I just receive a letter from the State Fair of Texas; the photography judging has finished. All the photo entrants this year had to have a Texas theme. I submitted one photo in the "Texas City Scene & Activities" and when opening the envelope I got a great surprise .... 2nd Place!!!

Thanks to everyone here who has help by examples and comments that improved my abilities to be able to do this.. Thanks!

Now if my shoe pic could get a little above a 5!

Well done, which pic was it?

This is the one submitted, probably one of my better ones.

Heck if I know, I got a printout of a spread sheet with one line on it ;) Says 2nd Place Ribbon. I just feel great getting anything, even if it was only an honorable mention. The State Fair doesn't end for another month, so I guess I'll have to make the 300 miles one-way trip just to see it on a wall. I think I need to reward myself with a new lens ;)

Congratulations!! I entered as well..but we have moved this past week..so if I got lucky enough to get one of those letters, it might be a week more to be forwarded to me. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Congratulations on placing at the Texas State Fair. I had planned to enter this year, but had family issues that happened at the time I would have gotten my entry prepared and sent.

Way to go! I am happy for you!

Congratulations! What a great picture!

I entered a picture this year in the Birds category and won 3rd place.

"Eagle Eyes"

I also entered a picture in the Architectural/Details category and didn't place.

You should be very proud! There are SO many entries it's unreal! I won 1st place last year in the Children 2 or More category with this picture:
"Dog Days of Summer"
It was so wonderful to see it hanging at the fair and see people point it out and comment on it.

Congratulations again! I look forward to seeing it in person!

The Eagle Eyes and last years are outstanding. It's great to see at least two DPC'rs placing so hi in the State Fair of Texas. Hopefully we'll hear of a few more that entered and did well. I only entered the one, wish I had tried a couple others now. AND I hope to be able to get up there to see it, a 600 miles round trip is a long way to go but will probably be worth it. Congrats

Hey hey Don, congrats! And absolutely you ought to reward yourself with that new lens! Great photo, the recognition was well deserved.

Congratulations Don. What a wonderful photo! I'm not surprised it placed so high.

Absolutely New Mexico counts, I had three businesses there until this last year, two in Albuquerque (had to prove I could spell it ;)) and one in Santa Fe. Congrats indeed a very good photo on the Open Range!

congrats, don! if you stay home, btw, you'd probably have enough money to buy TWO lenses ;-)

That is a good idea, a new lens or two or a lot of over-priced price gouging fuel to make the trip. A new lens does look like a better option ;)

I lived in ABQ for 6 years, couldn't stand the crime anymore so I moved.
I re-read your original post. I think it's neat that the Texas SF makes Themes. NM SF is boring with the same ol' categories every year. Portrait, Wedding, Fine Art, Misc, Commercial and Scenic. They calim they're going to shake things up next year...we'll see.

That is why I closed my businesses down in ABQ. I know there are a lot of good people there, great friends but it was impossible to find honest managers!

So any more State Fair winners from anywhere in the world?
