Hello,

Many of you probably don't recognize me- I haven't been very active on the site for the past year as I've been trying to get myself sorted out after moving home from Japan. My name is Amanda, I live in Denver, and I'm good friends with Julia Bailey (grigrigirl).

Julia has been an amazing help to me as I've been trying to start a photography business with my mother. She allowed me to come down to New Orleans, shadow her for some weddings, build up my portfolio, offered countless advice about how to run things, and a place to vent the frustrations of wedding photography and life in general! Recently her own business had become established, her reputation as one of the city's best photographers (as you can see yourself from her work) had cemented, and things were starting to grow.

But that's all up in the air now.

Julia is incredibly strong and brave, as many of you know, and I have great faith that she will rebuild things from square one if need be, but she also needs help. I can't imagine how disheartening and debilitating this storm is for these residents. I simply cannot picture it.

What I would like to do is create a fund for Julia and other DPC members to help them in these next couple months as they potentially have no income coming in, and not only have regular living expenses to account for but emergency expenses as well.

Most displaced DPCers may not have a secure mailing address to send them help directly. Does anyone know how to create a bank account fund where people can send donations to that can be distributed among the DPC victims (potentially from those print sales!)? I'm willing to do the leg work, but any advice would be gratefully accepted. Also, anyone else who knows of Katrina DPCers who need help, please let me know so we can include them in this fund.

I hope and believe that DPC is a community that helps each other out, not just with lens choices and editing tips. I humbly ask you to prove me right.

Thank you.

The paypal account address is dpckatrina@yahoo.com, if you would like to contribute. Also, any other members you know of ?

Hi Amanda,

This is a great idea! I started another thread earlier to try and raise money by selling prints, but sending money directly to a PayPal account is a great way to help. Maybe I can submit whatever proceeds I raise into that account. Thanks for setting this up!

That is a good idea. I wonder if Drew and Langdon (D & L) could set it up so that those who were willing could have any funds made in their print account sent to that paypal account?

This sounds coarse, but thousands of people need money too, please do not forget to donate to more far reaching organizations as well.

Although I don't know any of the DPC members that live in the ravaged areas, I would be more than happy to contribute any way I could. Just let me (and I hope many others here) know where and how. A terrific idea. Thank you.

You're totally right max, I know I don't have the resources to help thousands, but I can do a little bit what I can and where I can to help a couple. And if enough people all over do a little bit, then maybe we can all help a great many :-)

Max, I completely understand. It all depends on how you feel comfortable helping- how you feel your help will go furthest. For me, I like knowing where and to what my money and time are going- I like having a personal connection (not just in this particular case, but in general). For others, they feel that donating to the Red Cross etc. is a better way to go, and I support that too. I'm just trying to offer up a way for us to take care of our community.

i'm new here, but it is easy to see that this is a community in the real sense, so this sounds like a fantastic idea. Another online community i've been involved with for a long long time had dozens of people just out of katrina's range offering couches, apartments, places for pets, kids, etc....
