Wonderful addition to the main page - it will surely make the process much easier (and much more effective since DPC will be donating their profits as well).

When it's all said & done, would be nice to see final tally from this site, as well as a list of the participating members.

Good job DPC!

I want to help as much as possible..but so far..not a single print has been chosen from my meager 3 available...but I have hope someone out there will make a purchase and help out the folks that need it. We just got back from dropping off food and some clothes at the Red Cross. All we can do at this time...but better than nothing.

Yea! Way to go, Drew and Langdon! I hope that the distinction for those who are donating their print sales will remain up past September 15, but this is such a great way to call attention to this effort no matter how long it lasts. Thank you! :-)

with regard to the Smugmug gallery...is this just for people who don't already have a place to upload their prints (not counting DPCPrints)? i have all mine uploaded to my Pbase galleries. should i re-upload to the Smugmug gallery?

also, how do we address the prints of several different aspect ratios? will they be automatically cropped by Smugmug?

Hi Sher. I created the Smugmug gellery to offer an easy alternative that will last as long as people want to keep selling their prints without any delay in uploading or approving photos. The other main goal was to have a central location for all the prints that are being sold for this cause that I could tie to the katrinaprints.com URL, which should happen in the next day or so.

As for print sizes, Smugmug offers a huge variety of aspect ratios and allows the person who is purchasing the print to choose how to crop photos if they don't fit the size of the print that they want. It's a very nice feature that seems to work really well.

I'm in no way trying to compete with Drew and Langdon, who are being extraordinarily generous in their efforts. I just want a simple alternative to provide as many options as possible for people to participate in this effort. My basic opinion is the more the merrier. :-) If you would like to upload a few of your prints to that gallery as well, please let me know and I'll send you the upload info. Thank you!

SmugMug seems to have rejected my square photo. I can probably reformat to a 5x7 or 8x10 with a little more border if necessary.

The more sites offering the prints, the likelier it is that someone surfing/searching the web will come across them ... in this case it doesn't matter where the prints are sold from.

The approval process is very quick. I put up five new ones, and the first 4 are already approved.

No sales here either :( but I have more to put up...

That's odd, Paul. They do sell square prints, so that shouldn't be the reason why they rejected it. Can you e-mail me the photo at "philip dyer@aol.com" (without the space) and I'll see if I can figure out what the problem is. Thanks!

Glad to see D&L got into the game. Exactly why I think this site rocks..................

Ahh ... I found it -- it ended up on some way different page of the gallery than the rest of the photos, which are clustered a couple of pages further along.

I went to view my uploads onto the smugmug site and check the prices. 4x6 starts at .29¢. I am not a smugmug user how do I make the price about the same as the others have? (many photos are on this rate)

-Clueless, (after having tons of trouble loading them in the first place)

If you check while you are still logged-in, you will see only the base price. If you first logout and then browse to the photo, you should see the retail price.

Very exciting announcement: The //www.katrinaprints.com domain is up and running and pointing to the Smugmug gallery of prints now! Well, it was exciting for me anyway. That was my first DNS propagation and I'm happy about it. :-)

I still need to do some re-organizing to make it more obvious that the site is to raise money for victims of Katina, but I just wanted everyone to know that it's live now. This site will stay live as long as people are willing to continue selling their prints to raise money. If anyone else wants to post photos there as well, please PM me for more information. Thanks again for all your help!

Hi Cristy,

Were you able to figure this out from GeneralE's note? You logged in with the username and password that I gave you, so you will see prints at the base price. Just log out and go back to the page to see how much the prints cost to people who don't have the password. If you have any more trouble, please let me know.

Great work Philip! I want to continue donating my prints past the September 15 date. I'll post up some more photos on SmugMug this weekend! Thanks again for all of your hardwork...and kudos on the DNS issue. I know what a bugger it can be...haha.

i posted this in the Pbase forums and sent also sent it to practically my entire e-mail address book. hope it helps generate some sales.

I am a resident of Louisiana and have many friends and relatives that have been affected by the destruction of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Today, I would like to announce that I an donating to the Red Cross Relief Fund all the profits of my print sales for the months of September and October to help the victims of this tragedy.

A group of my fellow photographers have also pledged to do the same.

Please take a moment to browse these galleries and help us help these victims. If you don't wish to purchase a print, please consider making a private donation to the relief effort of your choice.

Thank you for your kind consideration...

I just finished looking at all the available prints and have ordered several. I plan to order again soon, as one of the many ways I can help the victims of hurricance Katrina. Thank you to the generous people of this site who are donating these profits. Blessings to you all.
