My superintendent of schools sent out a staff email this afternoon...our small town, about 25 miles east of Dallas, has now taken in approximately 300 families from New Orleans. Their children have been given permission to enroll in our school district, but will need assistance with everything from uniforms to supplies to lunch money to shoes, and everything in between. My print proceeds will go directly to the fund we are setting up for these families, simply because I think that is the best and most efficient way to be sure it makes a difference in their lives.

I'm sure my little district won't be the only one seeing a sudden influx of children in the next few weeks. These kids are going to be frightened, traumatized, and very much in need of security and stability. I am so thankful our district has trained us (our counselors) in crisis debriefing and trauma response. This will be by far the most important event we deal with this year, I'm sure. I look forward to the challenge and helping the families in any way possible.

the "Prints" should be available to buy as a TIFF image ready for print so we foreighners can buy them for a reasonable price and print them at home.

well .. I would be willing to email the image in a JPG - print quality image - if someone wanted to do that ... and I have a paypal account and the cost of the print could be sent that way ... just email me if you are interested

that's a good idea, hope other photographers can do the same..
I went through your prints, and some are really nice, but not what I'm looking for... sorry :)

the print I wanted is laurielblack's Hyacinth Macaw

this is the only bird I'm willing to pay the price of an 1Ds Mark II for :)

I just bought a few prints, as I do not have any at the moment to sell. I have a photo I have been working on that I was/am going to enter in a Louisiana tourism photo contest. I will attempt to set up for sale and contribute the funds for the Katrina photo charity through the announcement of a winner.

Being so close to an enormous natural disaster is very much an eye opener. The very best in how people can come together to assist is beyond words. The influx of people fleeing from New Orleans into the Lafayette and acadiana area are enormous. I hear of $50,000 being raised in seven hours at the cajun dome, small town organizations taking turns cooking meals for people taking refuge in their civic centers and people donating time assisting survivors adjust to a life in our community for a period of time unknown. These are just a few wonderful things that occur during a time of disaster. I also know this is taking place in other small communities located around this disaster.

There is no doubt negative stories of individual actions will emerge over a period of time and that is unfortunate for all times. I ask we all keep in mind there is an enormous amount of good hearted people assisting with getting these survivors back on their feet.

Thanks everyone for buying prints and for pledging more print sales to this cause. It will definitely help people who have been devastated by this hurricane.

As for Julia, if her house was in New Orleans, then it's almost 100% sure to be destroyed now. I would love to hear from her first-hand how she's doing, but I'm sure she has no idea what condition her house is in. Most of them are just a total loss. Hopefully, we'll be able to do some small bit of good here that will help her and others.

I'll be donating print proceeds to the Houston SPCA. There are thousands of animals who have been impacted by Katrina. Many storm shelters can not take pets.

I'm a huge fan of Animal Cops: Houston, and I've admired the Houston SPCA for some time.

The Houston team has taken in all of the animals who were sheltered at the NO and surrounding area SPCA shelters. They need help providing support to these animals. They are asking for money, and for equipment.

Before you say, "these are just animals," think of how important that cat or dog is to their owner. You may be helping someone who has lost everything get a beloved friend back.

To donate to the Houston SPCA directly.

Wow, I am always amazed at the generosity of this site. My home, along with several other DPCers, is probably floating into the gulf as we speak. On behalf of everyone on the gulf coast in situations similar to mine -- thank you!

I will also donate all proceeds of print sales through Nov. 1 (including what is currently banked in my account, which isn't much but a start) for Hurricane Katrina relief through the American Red Cross.

My Prints, and I'll try to get some others posted today as well.

Laurielblack, we have been trying to find out how we can open our home to a family. We have searched every where but no luck. We debated on driving that direction on 20 because we were told their were thousands of families just at rest stops. We live down by Corsicana but also have a home for sale in Arlington we can open up till it sells. If you or anyone else has any idea who we could contact please let me know.

I wanted to add, we live by Richland Chambers lake and most of our neighbors are just weekenders. Our next door neighbor has 2 travel trailers that he too has offered if we find familes needing them. I feel sure their are several others around here that would willingly open their lake homes to victims.

So far, I've sold a print to the very generous Scuds and hope that others have been making some progress in their efforts to raise money for the victims of Katrina. If anyone else wants a print from any of the people on this thread who are donating their sales to this cause, please check through their portfolios and buy some prints. You get a beautiful photo to hang on your wall and some of the homeless people on the Gulf Coast will get the help they need.

Alternatively, you can click here to find out about other ways to help. Thank you! :-)

Ok..to help out with shipping cost, etc..anyone willing to purchase one of my prints, just let me know and I will email you a full size copy of the photo, or give you a link to the full size image online for download, and you can print or have printed yourself. This is the only way I can see getting around the shipping cost abroad.

Thanks!

I have also sold several. I sent an email to all my family and friends and asked that they please forward it onto others if they felt so inclined. I also have some profits from a couple of referrals that purchased others photos. I'm in the process of adding more prints now, just awaiting approval. In addition, I too will make available prints via email to DPC users overseas if they are interested in any of mine. I have a pay pal account.

Thank you to all who have taken the time to look and a big thank you to those that have made purchases. :-) I'm sure every little bit will help.

I added a few more prints this past week to my site, including Autumn Tapestry, which seems to have a lot of favorites.

I too will match this offer: For the month of September, I will donate all of my sale profits from DPCPrints to the Red Cross Relief fund. I will put a note in my DPCPrints profile shortly.

Note that if you go through the convenience link //www.nrshapiro.com, there's more profit in my account, and thus more that will be given to charity.

My Prints also offered to the RC relief. How about a master list at the top to make it easier to buy prints from folks?
