I'm thinking about going into cinematography, just on a personal, non comercial level (for now). Only problem is finding good, reliable software to edit videos with and piece them together. I used Windows Movie Maker with my webcam and made a decent show, but when I tried to use my digital cam with it, WMM wouldn't let me play the file.

So now I'm looking for a professional grade software to go with a digital camcorder (if you know a good camcorder, that'd be nice to know, too). I'm looking for something in the realm of 100$. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help and time!

Well, professional grade software is far more than $100.

However, you could get by with either Sony Vegas Movie Studio or Adobe Premiere Elements. Those are both about $100. Those are probably your best bet in your price range. Both of them also include basic DVD authoring capabilities, and have higher end versions, as well, so you can easily move up to those once you outgrow either product.

If you don't want to spend any money at all, there's also a free version of Avid DV, which I've heard is good.

Darn. I was afraid of that... I actually found some reviews online, where you can purchase and download the software, and most of them were priced around 100$. I probably just found some scam site or other...

Thanks!

Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum Edition is slightly more than $100, but you will not be disappointed with this product. It is based on the incredible Vegas video editing software, which, IMHO, is by far and away the best video editing software available (and I'm including Apple's Final Cut Pro in that statement). As a matter of fact, I consider Vegas to be the best program I have ever used. Photoshop is a close second, but the things Vegas can do is just incredible.

The fact that they have a reasonably-priced version for you is just your good fortune. :) I highly recommend you check it out.

Dont forget a high-end PC for it!
This can get pretty rough when editing video!

I purchased a low end video editing software from ulead called videostudio 8. I really enjoyed it comes with all the basics even dvd authoring. However with that company they do alot of promotional deals and upgrades. So the last deal they offered I upgraded from the basic videostudio 8 to their media studio pro $499 originally but with all the promotions and stuff can get it for cheaper now. I own adobe premiere 6 aswell after useing all 3 media studio pro is a really nice peice of software. The site even has a comparison to adobe premiere. Oh! I made the upgrade from videostudio to meadia studio pro for only 99 bucks. Great deal.
