More than one outing (day outings anyway) is great ;-)

Ithaca's still on the table. (Nudie Boy hijacked the thread on that "other" site.)

Colorado has lovely fall colors. We live in southern Colorado and each fall drive the loop from our house over La Manga and Cumbres passes up to Chama, NM - over to Pagosa Springs, CO and then over Wolf Creek Pass to South Fork. It's so beautiful. There are lots of other good places in Colorado, too.

If you have lots of money and time you could see the fall colors here in Colorado in October and then the colors in New England later on! Colorado's fall colors come early since most of them are at such high altitude.

Some of the trees here have already started to change to yellow.

We, too have been partial to southern Colorado. The drive from Durango over to Telluride, down to Cortez and back was exhaustingly beautiful.
The aspens interpersed with the oaks and the deep greens of the conifers is breathtaking.

I am from Worcester Massachusetts in the middle of it all. I does depend on the weather in a particular reagin around here each year for the best color... But there is always color......Leaf Peeping is big time so plan ahead for rooms. Remember all of New England is only as big as most other states so a lot is within reach from the beaches to the mountains is an easy day trip.

Please count me in also

Ok, I will admit I didn't read any of the thread beside the first few posts. Soni, if you want to come out this way, great! You will not be disappointed. I live in Williamstown, MA and the whole area is great for fall foliage. There are plenty of ski areas that have chair lifts to bring you right up to the tops. Lots of mountains between Berkshirtes, Green, White, Adirondacks, that you will not be disappointed.

For the best times in general...early October - first week or so. After that too many leaves fall. But once the colors are in, they are in until they fall off.

If you decide to come out this way, would love to be at the GTG. Please keep me informed.

Jackson, NH is a 14 hour road trip from here, although I don't think Mapquest picked the best route, do I really need to go through Canada??

Think I'll just stick to Northern Michigan.. :)

Vermont and NH are very cute in Fall, foliage is awesome.
Only problem there are no places to stay and lack of Public lands.
Most of the cute scenery is on private land and difficult to get access to it.Hotels are in very small numbers .You have to drive to a big towns to find one and they are 100% booked in October. I end up sleeping two nights in my car last year because everything was full in 200 mile stretch of Vermont.

it comes with the subject. lack of development is key to unobstructed mountain views... plan ahead better.

the middle shot is quite nice BTW.

If you do come to Colorado, and are anywhere near La Jara where I live please let me know so we can all do something together! My husband and I went to the Sand Dunes with Van Truan and his lovely family a few weeks ago and it was such fun to get together with another DPC member. We took tons of pictures and had a great time.

Yikes! I should see if I can find a hotel anywhere near that area.

Gros Morne National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just named the No. 2 park in North America by National Geographic Traveller magazine: //www.nationalgeographic.com/traveler/features/nprated0507/nprated2.html //www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/nl/grosmorne/index_e.asp

I can't find a hotel in Jackson NH. Is there another town nearby?

Eastern Pennsylvania is pretty nice for fall foliage, especially little towns such as...

New Hope, The Pocono Mountains, Bushkill Falls, just to name a few.

You might have a better chance finding a Bed and Breakfast rather than a Hotel.

Anywhere in New England is great in the Fall. I used to like to start in northern Vermont and new hampshire and work my way down through Mass and Connecticut. It starts up there usually the 1st week in October. By mid October, Connecticut is blazing in color.

Someone said there's no seasons in California? Not true here in Auburn. Although a little late (November), we still get some awesome colors.

We have some beautiful fall foliage in Ontario and Quebec. Eastern Canada is great for it.

Soni,
Time to get out the dartboard!
Seems like you have (quite) a few choices here....
1. plunk yourself down somewhere "likely" for about a week and see what happens to the leaves ("likely" can be debated)
2. fly into someplace like Albany, NY where you have a half a chance of getting decent air fare, rent a car and wander around from one DPC'r to another---one of us will likely have good foliage in our area at the time
3. move to one of the (several) most beautiful places in the Northern Hemisphere and become a "local"
4. let us all vie for your attention and whomever charms you most gets to put you up for the weekend =)
5. Your option?

I have lived in New England all my life, and I think overall foliage is best along Vermont/NH borders in the mid to upper half. I have looked at foliage on the Mohawk Trail in MA, and that is quite beautiful as well. Then there is the quiet corner of Connecticut which is in the Northeast part of the state. We will be changing colors starting in another 3 weeks or so, but the peak will probably be around 2nd week of October. Happens to be a Renaissance Festival going on at the same time in Woodstock, CT. at the Woodstock Fair grounds. Runs from mid Sept I think to about the 3rd weekend in October. I'll post some pictures of last years in my portfolio. Give me a few days.
