If I had to vote for one I would go with the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

I figure, I'll pick the place everyone else picks as long as there is a nice hotel near by. hehehe.. I love to hike so that is no bother here. The more walking the better.

Works for me. Lots of covered bridges in the area, too. Pick a date and a location and I'm there.

Maybe we could find a reasonable B&B and all stay there for a weekend (there are hundreds in the area). Jackson, NH would be a good place to start.

what!?

I thought you were paying for us to all stay here

Cameron, NY

Keuka Lake

I would say Vermont (I'm a Leaf Peeper!) or Upstate New York. The above are NY, near my home. I have a bunch more from last year, but not still on the computer. I have to go through my cds to find them.

a B&B sounds cool, I'm in, we just need to pic a date and vote on a place, we should start a new thread about a GTG.

I think y'all should go to the Jasper Park Lodge. Viewing mountains and lakes and foliage etc is much better than the 'hills' of NH. ;o) -- your dime though.

I know there are a bunch of B&B's upstate NY

Err, yeah, that would be nice. ;)

Oh right falls coming soon.

Anyway as someone who has lived in New York, I suggest the New York-Pennsylvania area.

Leapin' Leaf-Peepers!
I just Googled the drive to Jackson, NH--9.5 hours for me (w/o the necessary rest stops)!!

I second that- especially the area north of Asheville around Craggy Gardens.

I would third that. There have been some years where it is simply breathtaking, but the past two have been rather bland, unfortunately.

Only about 6 hours for me. So when is this going to be? When is the best time for the fall colors? Mike? Anyone?

Ummm....actually, you took that wrong. I can't see spending nearly 20 hours (round trip) traveling to see leaves that look a lot like the ones on the hill behind my house. :(

I'd go somewhere in between: lower Adirondaks, anywhere in the Catskills, NY/VT border...of course, y'all could come "here" =)

(You did mean you want me there, didn't you?)

Also I still have my eye on an Ithaca, NY area trip too! Hope to do a fall outing there as well as one in VT, NY, and maybe NH (but distance and driving time do get up there--the site you picked is 6+ hours drive for me).

More than one outing (day outings anyway) is great ;-)

Here's another location for consideration: Hunter Mountain in Hunter, NY
Comes with a BEER festival!
It's at a ski resort with lifts to the top of the mountain.
Nearby is one of the most beautiful State Parks with hiking trails that overlook the Hudson Valley--on a clear day you can see CT, VT, NH. Camping near two pristine lakes. Ahhh, I miss that place!
