These turned out really well. A little disappointed with the yellow tinge, but I am going to get the 1.4 before long that is suppose to get rid of the yellow.

I wouldn't say that a yellowish tint is cz of this lens!
It has a lot more to do with the lighting at the place u shot it!
And to tell you the truth I can't see the yellow "tinge" you talked about!

The "yellow tinge" has nothing to do with the lens. It has to do with the whitebalance setting in your camera.

Next time you do a shot like this, try bringing along a grey card so you can set the white balance manually in the camera.

There's no reason to spend over $300 on a new lens to solve this problem.

Maybe it is my monitor. What is a good one to get that has the digital plug in on it?

If you think about a lens having a yellow tint, this would hopefully be worked out by the camera's AWB.

i'm having a hard time looking at the colours... really ;)

I don't find the 'yellow tint' to be that bad actually. Gives a good tone to the skin.

Try doing a custom white balance next time you shoot in a similar situation.

That's a totally awesome pic! The yellow tinge is hardly terrible. Looking at how the effect is significantly worse up near the lights on the far wall, I'd say lighting is definitely your problem. Looks like Yellow lights are bouncing off of yellow walls. It gives a gymnasium feel to the pic IMHO.

There is a tutorial on how to remove a colour cast from a JPG image on this website that might prove useful.

You have a few other alternate solutions (grey card is still the best).

If you are with the team, you could try to shoot the socks of the girls to set custom white balance Anything really white will help. The socks were the only things I saw.

You might also try some of the in-camera WB settings to approximate in a pinch (I found this really helps aquarium shots!) use your hand or face (with teeth) for a known frame of reference if you really need to.

I must say though that I find the girls to be fairly well colour balanced. The biggest issues of yellow appear to be in the stands. They are in totally different lighting conditions, if you want to get rid of the yellow in the stands which comes from the wall lights, you will have to deal with weird colours on the girls who are probably lit by big multiple 500W halogen arrays or something similar on the ceiling as is the case in most gymnasiums.

Well done!

shooting with a grey card, or anything neutral, a white piece of paper will give you smashing white balance.

If you do a test like this you will see how good it is.

Take a picture of the white piece of paper.

use that paper as the custom white balance picture

take the picture again of the paper.

when you get them into photoshop compare the color R: G: B: amounts of the two sheets... the second one should and will be the same number for all R: G: and B:

When shooting in a location with constant lighting like a gym, custom white balance is the way to go
