Doh! I didn't have the "Show All" button checked, so the oldest date was 4/25. Now I'll just have to hide these forum posts before anyone realizes how stupid I am... |

Sometimes, I wonder if some of the voters think before they vote. One comment on my entry said the photo would have been better if something in the picture had been cloned out. People aren't even voting with basic editing in mind where no cloning is allowed. I've had several comments about this item in my picture - I would have cloned it out under advanced rules but it isn't allowed under basic.
Makes me wonder if these same voters just go ahead and clone anyway on their entries in basic challenges. |
Sammie, when I go through, I comment and tell people how I think the photo could be improved for their later use, not just based on the rules for the challenge. What do I think would make this photo better should they decide to sell or display it, etc? The only way I take the rules into consideration is when I feel something has been done to the entry that is not allowed.

Jen, I do that sometimes, too. The comment on my picture isn't worded that way at all - here is a snip:
And the "blank" detracts. Could you have cloned it out? Just wondering.
I put "blank" in so I wouldn't give my entry away.
When voting on open challenges I always keep in mind that you can't clone, dodge or burn & people can't get rid of that little hot spot or speck of sensor dust and not vote a picture down due to things people can't change in basic editing. |

For the most part, what I expected. Would be lucky if I reached 5.0. I have received lots of comments to the general effect of 'over-processed' (which is what I expected).
What I am amazed at, is 17 comments and a favorite!!!! whoooo hoooo!!
Some really seem to like my entry, while others absolutely *don't*.

It's far from 100% perfect, but you take your score & # votes, then hit the update button, and then infer the avg vote in the time between the two. If someone has adjusted their vote on your picture in the meantime, the inference will not be accurate, but it's close enough for DPC work. |
OMG, you people have too much time on your hands! LOL! I will need therapy after this! I don't know if I will ever get this deep into this, maybe my son is right, he just told my sister, "she's not a photographer, they just let her hang out with them" LOL! |

Here's an idea, I think in addition to who wins blue, red and yellow ribbons, below that, there should be categories for who got the most comments, who had the most views, who's entry was added the most as a favorite. Or is this shown somewhere I don't know about yet? If not, where can I get put this suggestion so it can be reviewed?

This is my first challenge but I have a small question...
Why is it I only have a 5.15 when all the comments I have got, ALL, are positive ones? Makes me think that the people who vote poorly don't really know why they are voting that way or know what they are doing.

Most comments will tend to be on the positive side as people look for something nice to say, and even constructive criticism sometimes results in an angry PM response (shame!) that discourages that person from leaving critical comments in the future. As a result, sometimes the ONLY comments you'll get are the positive ones even if the photo isn't all that great. We are a diverse group, and SOMEBODY is bound to appreciate any given photo.
The highest and lowest-scoring photos usually get the most comments because those are the shots that provoke the most response (good and bad, respectively). If you get only a few (or no) comments, that's generally a sign of an "Eh, whatever" photo that didn't prompt a reaction, and 4.5-5.5 scores fall into that group. It means the shot is neither great nor horrible, just that there's not much else to say. |
