Perhaps it has been requested before, but...

It would be fun to have a panorama challenge where it is allowed to make a panorama with multiple images (no limit to the number of images, one image is fine too). This would however require a wider size allowance, like 1280x480 or something like that, with at least a 200kb max size. Surely in discussions during the challenge people will be pointed to good stitching software and tips & tricks.

By allowing some good old 'no editing restrictions' the SC will not be too busy with validations. The date can be judged by requiring only one of the photos in the panorama for review.

Is it even possible without recoding (other size, bigger files)?

Hmmmm could be good but I'd imagine it would take a lot of recoding of the site - the database, the upload tools, everything.

I doubt it would be a priority given the existing waiting list of enhancements BUT it IS a cool idea...

It has, and I would be sooo there, panos are one of my fav things to do. Unfortunately, they don't work well at all with the 640px width limit :-(
Although I'd like to see it, I just don't think it would work well on the site.

My first attempts at panorama & photo stitching...

Some of these could have been achieved with a Wide Angle lens, however this is not possible on my Panasonic FZ20.

Case in point, I have the following picture printed at almost 5 feet in length. It's taken using 10 seperate photos, but the 640 limit makes it all but impossible to see....

These are from two pictures....

Many of those look very cool, I think it would be a great challenge. Unique views. Perhaps, some day....

While I have a lot of stitched testshots from around the house (like 360 pano from 20+ photos, slows your machine way down). I always forget to shoot for a real pano when I'm taking photographs somewhere. That's also why I haven't got a good stitching program yet.

So far I've got this one from my visit to Sweden in 2004:
The Falun Coppermine Pitch (Falun Gruva), nine photos, crap weather, a five at dpc. :)
//www.pbase.com/azrifel/image/48126610

Amsterdam from 2003 (two photos)
//www.pbase.com/azrifel/image/21285398

No little ones, because pbase is screwing those up, I do what they want me to do but on certain servers the links to medium sized direct jpegs aren't working.

Ohh, is that in Madrid? Never made it inside the arena in any of the cities I've been to. Did you watch a fight? Nice pan!
edit: for clarity
