Hello everyone,

I have some 7mp images that I wanted to make large prints of. I've gone to a photo shop and printed out 11x14 prints. Those came out fine. I had in the past printed 11x14 prints from a 3mp file, so thought the larger mp would allow me to print even larger, but I was told by 2 sources so far that 16x20 prints were not possible/not a good idea. That my camera had to have a larger mp.

Is there a way to fix my 7mp files for larger prints? If so, how large can I go without losing quality?

I live in nyc, so any good printing places to try also?

Thoughts appreciated, thanks!

If you're getting photographic prints made, then you should get results which are at least acceptable if not great if your file is at least 150 dpi at final print size. For a 16 x 20 print, that would be 2400 x 3000 pixels. I'm pretty sure a 7MP sensor captures more pixels than that.

yes you will be fine, but all depends on where you are getting the print done. some printers are better than others. I have had great results with Wolf Camera. Some have excelent results with Costco and walmart.

Of course DPC Prints is always a very good idea. Great print quality

I have done 16x20 off the Canon 300D which is, what, 6.3MP? They looked just fine.

are you kidding?!? yes, your 7mp camera can definitely have larger prints than 16x20. i've tried enlarging a photo of mine that i took using my old canon a40 (2mp) - 8x10. no problem!

good luck!

Thanks for the help everyone. Didn't even consider online processing places. And didn't know that online places printed large formats. Now I know!

Here is a photo of my living room:

Those are 3 18"x24" prints from the same file. Total size= 24"x54"

Taken with the 6.3 MP 300D, and printed by ezprints.com

They accually look better in person then in that picture.

I use MPIX and my camera is 5.1 mp. I have printed a 16x20 and it looked fabulous. The customer really loved it. The colors were great and no pixelating. They can print even larger with the same sized file. Online sites are great because when you upload your photo and go to order your prints, it will let you know if your file size is not suggested for a print size. HTH
