Anyways, I got my first dlsr about 7 months ago, acually first camera for that matter and I am loving it. This is only the second time I have attempted a photo shoot. I would like some good honest criticisms //www.carpenterphoto.com/gallery2/

The first comment I would make is about the layout of the page. I don't really like scrolling down to see the picture. it should be viewable in full size without scrolling. scrolling means at any given time I see only a part of the actual image which is frustrating...

And yes welcome to dpc :)

I think they're really a great set of shots! Your model is beautiful!!! Your b/w looks really well-done. I'd be proud as heck to have that as my results from my second attempt!!! Welcome to DPC! :)

Same here on the scrolling !

However...your shoot seems "dreary" to me. If that's what you were going for then you did it! I do like the last one. The one with the railroad tracks. The way you set it up makes me almost want to "straighten" my monitor. I think any photo that can make me "need" to touch it...for good or bad, is a photo worth a look.

Ahh yes, somtimes i have a bad habit of making my pics too large, my 24 inch monitor spoils me. Also i was going for a dark look. Thanks.

Hey Ron, I second the comment on scrolling to see the full picture but other than that the shots are very well done. Welcome to DPC.

Those are excellent portraits. Beautiful model too.

poses are not flattering to the model in my opinion, neither is the make up - drugged out look. i like the light.

I think the quality of the pics is really good. The content of the pics is pretty good if your intent was to have the model look bored, pissed off and uncomfortable. My favotite is the 11th pic, I think simply for the fact that you can't see her facial expression. I would crop that one slightly below her chest though. As is, that photo is almost cut directly in half by the horizontal line. Cropping it a bit higher gives it some really nice negative space at the top. In most of the pics, the model just doesn't appear to care at all. It works in the one with the fist though, that one is interesting. But, if the model doesn't even look interested in the pic, how can the viewer be?
The third one from the last, looks like she sat on something painful. I can't help but think there might be a model somewhere under all the eye makeup.
Otherwise, poses, location and choice of black and white are all really good. Focus and lighting are also good in my opinion.
Also wanted to note that no way in heck could I do anything remotely that good...Excellent shots. Just don't be afraid to ask her to smile and not hide behind her hair and makeup.

Punch is my fovourite of the group. I like the perspective alot, and how you kept the focus on her face rather than fist. The tracks make a nice background. I like the angels of the tracks in all the shots they're in. I think you have a great eye for angles. the way you set them up make the photos very interesting for my taste.

I love the angle on the tracks, both the camera angle looking down, and the tilt of the framing.

I see lots of burn brush marks, work on smoothing those out a little and you've got great stuff!

I like the look, kinda moody. nice b/w shots!

Welcome. Awesome job, I think b&w was a great choice and the model is wonderful! I also had a some trouble with the way the website was set up, since you have to scroll to see the pic(it just takes away from the photo). I would maybe try and shrink the resolution or place the menu bar on the left or right side.

Nice B&W. I also like the different point of view from below low and high.

btw - I have no issue with scrolling since I run a 1280x1024 resolution. Nice to see a site that uses more real estate (normally I see lots of blank space). I personally dont like the sideways scrolling for the thumbs since the scroll wheel does not work.

I resized the gallery so i hope it helps. Thanks for all the postive comments, I greatly apreciate every one. It was our intention to give a grim look to the pics. As for the burn marks, I am new to Photoshop as well, things will get better with more practice. Lousie makes a great model and en even better gf. If your interested, here is a link to the 1st set of pics I took of her. LOL people with small monitors might have to scroll again. //www.carpenterphoto.com/gallery

good series, you got some burn lines though, or maybe that was on purpose?
