Last week I got a message from a Bible-club in South Africa with the question if they could use my photo BREEZE

for a sermon on character growth called, “Who are you becoming?”

They could use the photo on the website, so I thought, they also could "steal" it, without asking. I appreciated them respecting my copyright, so I gave them permission to use it.
Here's an outtake of the e-mail I got:

Basically, we are doing a sermon on character growth called, “Who are you becoming?” What we would like to do to illustrate this point is to have three pictures at the front of the church. The first picture will be a basic outline with pencil sketches (showing the beginning of an artwork), the second picture will be a more completed pencil sketch, and we would like to use the Breeze photograph as the final picture. The idea is that these three pictures show the progression of a work of art being formed. This will tie in very nicely with the message of “Who are you becoming?”

We wouldn’t need anything else from you as we can use the photograph directly from your website.

I offcourse asked them for a photo, and this is what the send in return:
Hey Peter,

Thanks so much for allowing us to use your photograph. It worked fantastically – everyone thought it was awesome! Please find attached pic of what it looked like.

I think it looks great, and wanted to share my happyness ;)

How nice is that!

(Heartening, too, to know that people who are teaching character practice what they preach.)

I agree...churches, schools, business, anywhere...it's so rare that people understand the concept of copyright and the very limited scope of 'fair usage'.

Thanks for sharing!

Peter that is so great. They did you justice across the board, as well they should.

...if you can't trust a Bible Club...who can you trust?

Congratulations!

That is so great, one that they asked and two that they sent you a picture of the final presentation. The picture still blows me away.

Congrats! You deserve to have your work used-that picture is one of my favorites and I find it very inspiring. I hope this is just one of many that you see used in the future!
