I want to be able to block EVERY post, thread or whatever that certain people are in. I don't care if it means the discussion won't make sense to me, I don't care if I miss a TON of info. I can't "just ignore that person's threads" cuz I don't know when someone posted first, then them, then someone else - I gotta read their crap. There's a user or two that totally ruin my DPC experience and without leaving, I would like a way to eliminate those people from my DPClife. UGH.

lol...It's strange that you feel that strongly about me. What is your beef with me anyway? Feel free to PM me if you want.

I'd like this too but wouldn't it make the threads read weirdly? And what about when people quoted other people?

Another site that I go to has this feature where you can select 'ignore this user' and when you do that, you can see if they posted a thread or see that they posted a response, but there is a link instead of what they posted that says something like 'To see so and so's post, click here.' It's really a nice feature. Maybe the owners will consider it.

hmmm - maybe one of them is me. I seem to be a thread killer about 50% of the time. If I offend anyone, I dont mean to - but I won't apologize either as I am just being me.

you can do this on most forums by adding them to you 'Ignore List' and yes you can see what they say only if someone quotes them, but it still works well...except I don't believe this board has an Ignore feature yet...it's a very nice thing to have, because...well...some people just dislike other people, it happens.

Possibly me. I'm a THREAD-KILLER more than 50% of the time. But seriously don't you think blocking users would further break up this community. In the last several months I have noticed that if you are not part of a group you may as well stay out of the forums. If you ask for advice or critique/comment, very seldom will you get one (thanks to the people that do). If you add your spin on something, it goes by the waste side. I already see dpc breaking into groups, we don't need another tool to make this happen faster.

My semi on-topic contribution to the thread -

Why cant we be friends, why cant we be friends...

Oh i just remembered where that was from :-)

I'm for the idea as well -- but wouldn't it interfere with your job?

While we're discussing this though, a time limit and notification would also be a good idea -- kill-filing someone without telling them is allowing them to continue without knowing the harm they've caused. It is also abandoning the rest of the site to deal with the problem.

i agree, that way i would only have to read what canon uses have to say :-D

Let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.

Wouldn't that be awesome!

YES!! Let's implement this pronto, I want to ignore everyone. Can't bloody well fill the forums up with my own insane narcissistic ramblings if I have to read everybody else, now.. can I?

This is my opinion, nothing to do with SC or anyone else ...

Y'all do realize that when people block you you're gonna spend a lot of time performing the keyboard equivalent of whistling in the dark. I mean, who'd want to read stuff by someone who won't read what others have to say? If such a feature were ever to be implimented, this thread would at least provide a handy starting point for my "do not read" list. You plan to make this censor out certain people's images, too?

Honestly, if you don't want to read something by a particular person, use the little arrow at the bottom of the column on the right and scroll past their post instead of asking for a major site recoding to save you three seconds of site navigation.

I'd rather see the print site updated than have the admins spend their time hand-holding those with ultra-tender sensibilities.

I love reading what the people I don't like have to say
...Makes me like them even less! ;0)

Ditto. There are definitely people whose posts I don't bother reading anymore, they strike me as close minded, ignorant or just plain nasty pieces of work. But the world is full of all kinds of people, some of whom like each other, some of whom don't and I'm able to deal with that in real life. I can do it on DPC too!

Rather than just plain blocking them it'd be nice to have a ranking system against posts to help evaluate who is/isn't talking sense.

5 - Correct/useful/interesting
4
3
2
1 - Incorrect/useless/uninteresting

These could either be collated just per post. Or a sum/average for the individual user.

Add a subtable in the database with the ID of the post and ID of the user and select avg(). I wouldn't have thought it'd be very time consuming?

Or what about allowing you to ignore certain people's photos in the challenges :-)
That way I could set my profile to ignore everybody's challenge entries... it's about the only way I'll ever get a ribbon!!!
I suppose it would also mean I came last though :-(

Seriously though, I don't think it would be a good idea... Life would be pretty boring if we only talked to people with the same opinions as us, and the same goes for DPC.

And anyway, if you see a thread posted by someone who annoys you, just don't read it! Go out and take some photos instead.

Something like slash dot? Good suggestion.

wow...very well said. I was thinking that myself, but just couldn't get it out like that.

I agree with the General. Just scroll past a post if you don't like the person, but let's save the time and energy it would take to install a "block" feature and instead use it to make improvements to the site.

Well said!

I don't think there is any reason for blocking certain person. If you don't want to read what someone has posted do like generale has suggested. SCROLL PAST IT.

I have had a few run ins with a few people here but wouldn't want to ignore them. IMO that is just rude.

I had enquired awhile back if there was an ignore button availabe (I had searched the entired site) and if so if I had just overlooked it somehow. There is one particular person, (who hadn't been rude to be personally) that was rude and very ugly/nasty in the forums IMO....and I just didn't want to see their comments.....(like in real life...someone is annoying/rude, I avoid them or ignore them as being confrontational just escalates the issue). I spoke with an SC through PM'ing and he knew 'exactly' who I was referring to (mind you I hadn't even put down if it was male or female)...he said out of 1,000's of people registered on DPC he knew exactly who I was talking about (tells you a little about that individual doesn't it?) and just basically told me I could PM the person and maybe explain to them how they come across on DPC in a 'motherly' way to help that person be a better communicator. Thought it was great advice! Look at this as an opportunity to be able to communicate with someone who is....well...has bad manners/etiquette (had bad parenting when they grew up?) and 'needs' guidance in how to relate with people.
Anyhow...just a suggestion! :)
