That's exactly what I believe, which is why I'm wondering why people who like and respect Heida's work need to 'shake your mind out of it's groove/rut.', and why we're being encouraged to provide 'discussion of some of your idols that is not pure, gurgling praise'.
Everyone is allowed a critical opinion, it is also possible to be critically positive.
I really don't have a problem with negative opinions, just look at the comments I give! But I certainly don't get personal with people who want to give a POSITIVE critique. |

I second that! I've beaten Heida several times (and been soundly thrashed on many more), but I've only topped kiwiness once that I know of. The results are always more interesting (and usually hopeless for me) when Heida, Kiwiness, Arnit, Librodo, JJBeguin and some of the other consistently amazing photographers are competing in the same challenge. There should be a little warning flag on the challenge if they've already submitted entries. ;-)

I onced checked to see how I've done against the site greats, only to be yelled at in the forums for "ranking myself among them". Of course, that's not what I was doing, but I do love to compete against the greats.
If Ansel were alive and a member of this site, I'd be trying to kick his butt in every challenge. That doesn't mean I don't respect him (or heida, or jacko, etc) - it just means I want to be the David who takes down Goliath.
:)
ps ... I don't actually like most of Ansel's work, but I knew everyone would know the name :)

I don't think she rests on her laurels, every new image still feels fresh to me although it has a strong style.
Edit: It does sound like there are some sour grapes in the previous comment. Probably not the case, but it can come across that way. |
Agree for sure. The object is to develop a style of photography that people recognise as yours. Then it becomes more like an art form. |

Good luck to you in your challenge. I am just learning so I know I am a million miles away from competing. But focus on your talents and I am sure before the end of the year you will be there. |

I dunno about the dumbest thing on the site so far, there have been far more stupid threads. :-)..
My two bits would be to have a 'Heida Challenge' Preferably a speed challenge..
We have to go out and emulate Heida's style, and see if she can win her own challenge. :-).
Followed up with a jacko macro challenge, Arnit surreal ironing challenge etc...
Hmmm, maybe I need more coffee...
Cheers, Me.

I´ve seen pretty successful photographers on this site use the same model in just about every challenge....of course they might not be as successful as Heiða is but?

i love her work and I've began to be able to pick it out in challenges.
i never really noticed before but she has sensor dust on quite a few of her entries... is that a characteristic problem of the 20D?

Gee thanks. This thread started as a nod to how good heida is. And I'm SURE that heida knows I mean this thread as a joke. I also told her to retire and go learn to knit once so that the rest of us stood a chance.
As far as the off-topic we have going on, I'd have to agree, though. I don't know what Bob&Coolhar's chat has to do with me beating Heida by the end of the year. lol
Stay on topic people! Let's talk about my low chances of success, or maybe challenges I'd win at like "Sour Grapes" or "Ugly Photos" challenge. What about "Pink, Yellow, and Easter Pastels." YES I want a pink yellow and easter pastels challenge. THEN I want Heida to enter.

Heida's work is exceptional! If you look through her challenge history she had some early work which didn't poll as well as her later work so what that means is there is hope for everyone and all you need to do is work at it and perfect your craft as she has done! :) |

It's much harder to pick jjbeguin than a heida. Random thought, but another morsel to scrounge over. |

I just wanna say that if Heida had a good agent she would make an exeptional living off her photography. Her unique style pleases the general public's eye and could be used as art or stock.

LOL, I agree with you about stop counting ribbons, and go shoot!
Kiwiness would be a good one to shoot... cept there are so darn many of him!
Originally posted by heida: oh nice thread going on here
Well I do agree with Didymus that its about art not ribbons or scores, some of the best photographers here have very few or no ribbons
Stop counting ribbons and go shoot!
hehe mavrik its very easy to beat my I have entered 81 challenges and I have won 9
If you count that its more difficault to beat kiwiness who has entered 58 and won 10 So everybody try to beat him! :D |
