I guess you got an "original" to play with, bruski? Smooth work...

Another quick question. Do you shoot at the highest rez jpg possible for your camera? Because the ones you sent me still seem small for a 5mp camera. Just curious.

Holy Crap!!! All of those are awesome... the sky work is great!

Answer to the question - I shoot at 640x520 I believe at the camera's superfine setting... S2 IS, there are 4 other image size options. I am new to this camera and photo's in general... my question would be should I shoot at the largest image size and setting?

Bruski - I love the red sky... that is awesome... it of sets better than a gray/blue sky in the original... not sure how you did it but it looks mucho better

SDW65 - not sure how you did it.. I have never cloned anything before and am still trying to figure that technique out.. as well as layers... but the image is so much more clean with out the extra background parts

Bear_Music - man not sure how you got the sky to that condition but I bet with the orignal image you could do some real damage... love the work on the pic so far

Thanks to all of you for working with the images... if any want to post the steps I will try to work on through them so I can learn..

Thanks!

It is best to shoot at the best quality and highest setting possible. RAW if you got it on the more important shots or difficult situations as it allows more editing/correction options. You can always reduce the size/quality later, but once the shot is in the can, so to speak, there is no way to add more info back in.

It is cool to watch the experts work, isn't it? I shot a wedding and the church shots had an ugly purple glow from the large purple window. I tried and tried to fix it - the Auto Color Correct in PS worked best. Did I try that first? No...of course not.

I looked up your camera on dpreview.com and it says that your highest resolution is 2592 x 1944. I would set your camera to this at super fine. This will give you much larger originals to work with. Post processing will be much easier at this setting. Granted you won't have any where near the card space after you do this, but if you can I would recomend a 1gb card. That should allow you to take quite a few images at the higher rez.

Ok for the first image I posted, I rotated the image a little more to give it a stronger angle. Then I cloned out the building and a few other little items from the background. Then I selected the sky only. I used a couple different photo filters to get the color. I just played until I liked it. Then I used selective color on the whole image to play with the colors in their own channels. I gave it a little more saturation and color depth this way. I then straightened the image out so that the car was horizontal. Then I added a fill layer with a black gradient set at under 50%. I then brushed some gray back into the ground because it had turned quite pink as well. I then sharpened and then resized. I played with it to much after the resize and noise ninja and that is why it is more pixalted then when I started with it. Oops.

For the second one, I cropped it down some first. Then I selected the orange color on the side of the car with the color sample tool. I used this color for the sky. I did another fill layer gradient with this color just to the top half of the image. I cloned out the two signs and the boat first. (sorry I fogot I did that) Then I adjusted the color with selective color. I used levels to adjust the contrast. Then I burned in the ground around the bottom of the car. Normally I would have sharpened it too, but I forgot to. I also burned in the grass some. But that was about it on that one.

Not that you will notice much of a difference, but here is a sharpened version of the second one.
