I posted this picture on www.photosig.com, and I received only 4 thumbs and 1 comment. Is it really so bad?

I agree, It's just a nice snapshop. Maybe if you would have put your camera in Macro mode and moved in real close to only include the crab. It shouldn't be necessary that you show the man because it will be obvious that someone is holding the crab. Always try to illiminate any unnecessary elements.

I agree with the above thoughts. The subject you wanted to highlight is only about 1/50 of the entire photo.
You needed to (almost) fill the frame with the crab.

When the photo popped up I had the following thought process:
A man
A man holding something
A man holding a crab
A man holding a crab holding something
A man holding a crab holding a cigarette
Oh, now I get it. . .

It took a second or two to figure out the crab was the intent of the shot. My understanding of vision is that the human mind goes for recognizable objects first and once it locks on to what it understands then allows for processing other elements. This is probably why everyone will tell you to move in on the crab. When you took the shot you knew what and where to look so it seems natural to you. Hope this feedback helps. . .

I included the man cause he is the main subject of the photo. I think the photo shows he thinks he is doing a funny thing by letting the crab hold his sigarette. If this is funny or not is up to the viewer to decide. I realyze the title is wrong.

Just the krab

I saw the man as the subject of the larger version. The photo of just the crab isn't as interesting to me. I really don't understand how people judge photos as "snapshots" most of the time. Your photo looks like you thought a lot about the composition, and it's well exposed and focussed... what makes that a "snapshot"? The man's face is very expressive, and draws my eyes to it more than the crab does. It makes an interesting cultural statement about your bus driver and Turkey, to me.

Mechanially its a good photograph. If you can show a connection between the crab and the man, you could tie the loose ends together. Have the man smoking also. This would show the man's behavior as being similar to that of lower animals.
