Ken I agree with you. I will take pm's as well. I want to help someone that needs it not someone that doesn't want to pay for it.

It’s not possible to get a credit card at 14 and I’m itching to show more of my photographs in a portfolio and get critiqued.

---Is it wrong for me to feel like I’m begging? But what can I do? Being underage sucks most of the times and I really would like having a portfolio and participating in subscriber challenges. The pictures I send to challenges don’t do justice so a portfolio would really help a lot. I do actually have Deviantart to post my works but the thing is people here are a little bit friendlier and more helpful than DA.

Edit: Oh we're PMing? Right...But which one of you guys is the nicest? :P

It is not begging and not wrong. You've made a legitimate plea. And you don't HAVE to PM. :)

...and by the way, I am the nicest. ;-)

I know we didn't want this to be a big thing and I am by no means saying you are not justified Ennil. I just want to make sure do we have to let the minors parents have the membership to give to their underage kid? Or is it ok if they are alreay a registered user?

New refrigerator and next a new stove are the primary concerns right now, and following those new tires. Receiving a gift membership would allow me to participate much more and sooner than I could hope for.
Thanks much

Ouch! I'm afraid I'm DQ'd!

Guess I did wrong muddling up with Godzilla! I'm scared! I'm under Ken's target! I cannot hide...

Seriously, do award the membership to those who can't pay for it, whatever the reason.

Once again my age puts me in difficulty :P

Well seriously my parents aren't really against this site as they know about it. They just wouldn't buy me a subscription cause they said they would prefer putting that 25$ into buying me a few filters and films for my film cameras (Which they did) but I do understand your concern.

Not by me did you get spanked. But...

Because my membership is 13 days from being up and I may have to pawn my camera to pay the membership. Then I'll only be able to vote and comment, no more entries :-<

I think this is what I was trying to get at - I think there are many many people who would like membership but could afford it themselves without any financial strain, they just choose to spend it on beer or CDs or whatever instead. And then there are those who really can't afford it.

By the way, you might ask what business it is of mine since I'm not contributing, and you'd be right if you said, "none at all."

But a public thread invites public comment, no?

PS I'm half considering contributing but... I think there are more deserving causes - actually I'm wondering if it might be nice to start a thread, totally nothing to do with photography or DPC, I accept, to share with others our favourite charities and give a brief summary of why we feel they deserve support.

There are times when people just have an urge to do something good, to donate to a good cause and share a little of their good fortune around. I'd love to be able to think that, by introducing people to some of the charities I actively support, I might be helping those charities get a bit more funding one day...

Sorry for the thread hijack!

Okay, slightly miscalculated. My membership only ends in 7 days, not four.....but once it ends, I aint gettn' it back! I'm poor, poor I say!
I don't have the slightest hope of buying a new camera, a lens, a filter...heck, I can't even afford another memory card!(i only have the pathetic little 25MB one that came with my camera....and that was waaaay over 25 words, sorry)

ENNIL,

Your age doesn't put you at a disadvantage. Actually when I think of some of the artists here at DPC the most inspiring that comes to mind first are these and in no particular order:
Konador
Mr. Joey
annah

And now you.

These are some of the youngest here that I think have shown me great inspiration. What I am trying to say here is Art doesn't know an age or a color for that matter. I am just wondering if when your parents signed a waiver is that JUST for a registered user and do they have to approve a membership. So don't think for one minute that your age hurts you.

Kavey to answer your question on the charity thing:

Developing Photographers

Is still going to develop. And donations are always welcomed here:

Developing Photographers

But I have my own strategy for deciding who to chose and will reveal that once I have chosen.

Post them on a free site, post a link in the forum and still get feedback. There's always an alternative be it not as convenient.

I need it because I spent all my money on my 20d and other camera equipment and buying a new house so now I have none left. But I get membership by being on SC so please just send the $25 cash instead.

I have been aware of Rex's one since he started it but hadn't known about yours. Thanks for the link.

Because I would like to further develop my skills as an amateur photographer and rise to the next level.

Also, I am only 16 and therefore cannot work during the school year which starts soon to raise funds for a membership. I wish not to beg, but what you guys are doing is so extremely generous, oh, and sorry this is waayy more than 25 words!!!
