That makes the challenge a whole lot easier. :)
Altough I don't have time for it. :(

But are black and white colors?
White is made up of all colors, so white could be considered so. Black could be seen as the lack of all colors. The statement in the title therefore is true.

I REALLY DON'T LIKE YOU! :).... (Just kidding, but I can only imagine what you have started here!).

Could be starting the debate of colors of light verus the artistic color theory. Colors of light are what was mentioned above. Theory of color used in mixing paints, haircolor, and such state the black is equal amounts of the 3 primary colors mixed together uneven amounts make brown and white is the lack of color pigmentation.

Although I do have to agree black and white are complimentary colors of each other, but they weren't included in the challenge description, so we are stuck with red/green, blue/orange and yellow/purple.

I don't think we are stuck with those colours. The challenge descriptions merely reminds us that the "main sets of complementary colors are red/green, blue/orange, yellow/purple." It does not seem to limit us to those. In fact, by noting that the three mentioned are the main sets, the description assumes that there are also other sets .

Maybe this will help.

Definition of color: The sensation produced on the eye by light rays. The 7 main rays that make up the visible spectrum are subdivided
into three primary colors or hues - red, yellow and blue - each of which has a complimentary color composed of the other two.

no light = no colors, no light = black : therefore black is not a color
but black and white are used for tints and shades, black to make colors darker, and white to make colors lighter

u can also use complimentary tertiary colors .. tertiary meaning mixture of 2 secondary colors

Here is a sample of a color wheel i made.. maybe it will help... Color Wheel

Photography is about recording light and in that differs from painting where you use touchable materials to record what you want. :)
