I went to Chicago last week, and of course took some photos. One day's haul is now tied up in my FlashTrax in their own folder, but with symbols and lines showing for titles. They aren't accessible via the USB to my computer, and they aren't visible as JPG's from the FlashTrax.

Is there a hacker-type of procedure I can do to restore or otherwise correct this? It may have happened as a result of a near-hot-swap, when I disconnected from someone else's laptop after it was shut down, but without using the Windows Unplug or Eject Hardware command.

Gotta run now, I'll check suggestions tonight. Thanks. (I haven't been able to go with SmartDisk's recommendation yet - 3rd party file recovery software - so that avenue remains open to me. Recommendations welcome!)

I'd say that recovery software is your best bet. Most likely the directory structure on the disk got hosed. The files are very likely intact.
Don't write to the disk at all until you runthe recovery software on it.
