Hey all,

I was able to get really good seats last night for the Braves vs Giants game here in SF. Although I missed the sports challenge, I would love people's thoughts about these pictures. This was my first chance to take some major league sports pictures.

I was using my Nikon 70-300mm 4 - 5.6f lens and an ISO of 400.

Thanks,
Dave

i think all of the shots are technically great. my fav is the third one (the one of the player in the dug out). that has so much emotion in it -- you captured the mood (in my opinion) with that shot. all of the shots look professional (ie, like something in sports illustrated). nice work! sorry you didn't get to enter these into the sports challenge. i'm sure they would have done well.

forgot to add...on that third shot, i would probably do a closer crop to focus more on this face. there seems to be something in the bottom right corner that is a bit distracting.

Thanks so much Kel. Its also nice to get a compliment from a fellow Virginian. Although I live in SF, CA now, I grew up in VA all my life in the Tidewater area :).

Nice shots. I like how SBC park has almost a great vantage point in every seat.

What a small world. I graduated from Maury in '91 and grew up b/n Rockbrige and Magnolia on the west side of L-mont. As a matter of fact I went to Blair as well. I think you might have been over at Maury 2 when you were a freshman and I was a senior...correct? My parents still live in the same house....right there on that little park on Upper Brandon. Let's see, you must have graduated with Tyler Keister and Dean Rogis, correct? My last name is Shumate. Did you grow up going to Mallory?

Too funny! :)

I just joined this site about a month ago and have yet to enter any of the challenges. I just started uploading some pictures today as a matter of fact. These Giants pictures are the first one's that I've asked people to comment on. I'm looking forward to entering some challenges. Looks like you had a new baby recently based off your family shot....CONGRATS!!! Make sure you send you children to Maury....hahahah!

Nice shots, and great seat.
Images look a bit dark, though, the lighting is pretty good at the park.

Welcome!

Steve - Yeah I need to run them through Photoshop. The images I uploaded are straight from the camera. Thanks for taking the time to post your advice.

Take care,
Dave

Don't shop `em too much, they are pretty darn good already. Good seats, great shots. Must be a sweet lens.

You are ready for the challenges.

I also like the shot of Alou leaning over the railing, but my favorite is the one of Tucker on deck with the batter in the background. I would LOVE to have those seats, I have taken a number of shots at PacBell/SBC Park but from further up. Would have been great to be that close when the Giants won the next night in the bottom of the 9th with a close play at the plate. Did you take any action shots when the ball was in play?

Yeah, I got a few other shots, including some action ones. I really like the Michael Tucker shot in the foreground as well. I'll create a portfolio and you can check back to my profile in a few minutes. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. The seats were certainly one of those lucky things and I made sure I took advantage. Maybe some us Bay Area DPCers should go to a game and scalp one really good seat that we can take turns sitting in to make it affordable. The rest of us can get cheap standing room only tickets. The way they have been playing recently, the seats are really empty in some good spots as well for sneaking down :). And yes, I wish I could have been there last night for the bottom of the 9th win. I would have been right up on that slide by Devi Cruz to win the game. You gotta love the continuos shooting mode.

Take it easy,
Dave
