I wish I would have known this was the subject this week.. I just got back from seeing a midnight showing of it, and there were plenty of fans who would have made for great subjects... oh well..

...it was recreating history.[/quote]

Rewriting history wasn't it? I've read it was a load of tosh that the United States did any of that stuff at all...

Now the Brits...we were right in there...

*ducks his head in anticipation of grief*

In all fairness, it doesn't matter what you choose to do. As long as you can justify its relation to the week's theme, who cares? Sure, most shots are going to be related to the film(s), but actually the first thing I thought of was 'how can I be clever and photograph something matrix-related, but not the film?' Not saying I will or I won't shoot about the film, or even enter this week, but every theme's open to IN-TER-PRE-TA-TION.

If it relates to theme, and you can justify that relation, then go ahead and shoot. We'll be back to less interesting themes next week...

And as for promoting violence - it's an action film and of its type, it's no more gory or violent than any other. There are all kinds of ways one could take pics for this challenge without any reference to violence, however obtuse.

Thanks for listening guys, but remember: you think that's air you're breathing now?

I'm sorry, did I miss something in the terms of service or the guidelines that says that everyone must like every challenge? What's wrong with you people?

I personally despise the three recent color challenges but you don't see me moaning do you?

If you don't like a challenge just wait for the next one.

good point krets, if only more people thought that way, we wouldn't have 300 entries to vote on every week since everyone feels compelled to submit something for *every* challenge... i might actually finish voting for once :)

Went to the double feature at the drafthouse - back to back matrix and matrix reloaded, plus cheap beer and pizza. Was there 5pm til 1am :)

I wonder why there is always someone to complain openly about the challenge of the week. It is there to enter at one's wish. If you don't like the theme, shoot for yourself that week, don't enter, don't vote. I'm a bit overstuffed of reading complaints about all the challenges "Not that again, should be that, don't like that theme, boring, etc...". Photo contests are not based on one's wish.

I believe I may be the ONE. I have a local call registered on my display phone that reads MATRIX.

I just don't know how I'll get the vampires and ghosts into my picture now.

I for one am sick of reading posts from nothing but a bunch of childish wanna be photographers with nothing good to do but sit around and whine about challenges that people submit. If you have nothing good to say, then go back and hide in your dark room where you belong, away from decent society.

I agree that it's daft to expect every challenge to appeal to every member - that's way lies madness and banality.

With such diversity in the membership I think it's great to set challenges that appeal to different subsets in turn - keep everyone's creative juices flowing and encourage everyone to find a challenge every now and then that excites them more than usual.

For each challenge I am sure we can list members who were not at all thrilled or who felt unable to enter because they didn't understand or felt they didn't have access to suitable subjects.

But variety is the spice of life and sticking only to really broad topics does limit the scope of the site.

As for the Matrix - not sure how anyone who lives in 2003 can possibly claim that Saving Private Ryan or Gone With The Wind are more popular films in today's society. Let alone the violence argument. I'm not keen on many films because I do find them too violent - Pulp Fiction and Fight Club spring to mind - but I must admit that in the context of the story itself, Matrix was not all about violence.

Whilst I do appreciate that there are going to be members who don't like it or haven't seen it I do think it's fair to say that, of all the films that could have been chosen, Matrix is an excellent choice - especially as it's such a visually rich film.

Anyway GOOD luck to all entrants - I can't wait to vote on this one!

If you're here to stay you'd better get used to it. There's a 'lively debate' on here every week. Name calling is generally frowned upon though, both here and in 'decent society'.

We didn't say interpret the movie, we just said in honor of it. Challenges have always been open to any type of interpretation that you can come up with. Whether the voters see it or like it is a different story. :)

Man, that's pretty geeky :) heheheheh

I'll bet the Matrix looks more interesting as you drink.

My local theater only has 21 showings each night of Matrix Reloaded. I might have to go to one of the other 14 theaters nearby that are showing it. =o)

Maybe this weekend.

Hehe. Just finished my shot - it is, of course, perfect, at least until voting starts.

As for those feeling excluded ... surely it is a deeper learning experience to be asked to do something for whoch you don't necessarily have great enthusiasm? It won't take much research to find out the rough idea of the film, and it's an opportunity for a different kinf=d of approach. Make the diffficulties work for you ...

I agree with Tomzinho: how can we depict this fantastic world of the matrix without allowing editing?
05/16/2003 12:19:58 AM · #147
and there lies the challenge :)

Went and saw Reloaded today and loved it. I second to what Gordon said about the ghosts and vampires. Also, I'm such a geek. I went and rented "Enter the Matrix" for the Playstation 2 and it is amazing. I'm about halfway through it I think. Just got finished running around the Mansion and now being chased by the twins. The game is unique to the movie. The Wachowski Brothers directed the game as well and it follows Naobi (Jada Pinket-Smith's Character) and Ghost during the same time Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus are doing their thing. It has it's own movie cut scenes with the real actors and it goes even further down the rabbit hole into the story.

WARNING - POTENTIAL SPOILER IN THIS POST - SKIP THIS POST IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO READ A SPOILER

I just got through playing the highway scene and there was about a 15 minute movie cut within this game and it is awesome. I didn't know Trinity had a brother (Ghost) and it goes into why Niobi volunteers to help. Really cool game!
