Maybe a pillow/bedtime theme for your photo, then? ;) Man, I can't say I agree with you on your taste in movies, but there's gotta be something you could come up with that meets the challenge without being no fun for you! There are lots of office buildings, phones, city scenes, hmmm. Many concepts that are nonviolent to work with.

Sorry, I should step back and let the artist create! :)

can we say

"week
off."

It's a good challenge - interesting at least, and open to interpretation. Nobody is forcing you to submit. In 7 days, the Matrix will let you go.

There is a lot of deep and underlying meanings within the first movie. The writers put a bunch of little secrets and things all over the first movie.
The reason I'm quoting you though, is I think the color more related to the matrix is green. If you watch the movie, when they are within the Matrix there is sort of a greenish tint, but when they are in the real world there isn't.

nothing that says that every person has to participate in every challenge :) .. I myself didn't put into the Primary or Secondary colors challenges. YET, I'm still alive!!

this might just be the challenge that gets me submitting again :) i haven't submitted anything in a few challenges since getting my new camera (and did about 750 shots with it to "play around" :P).. and i got my ticket ready for tonight's showing of the movie :))

obviously this challenge isn't for everyone.. but they cant all be :)

True, but with most challenges one has enough general knowledge to be able to vote sensibly. With this challenge, not only can I not submit but I calso cannot participate by voting on others' submissions because the subject matter is completely unknown to me. I'm not really complaining because Drew and Langdon can do whatever they want on their site, but I do think this is a very limiting challenge for most people in the world.

one word... rent :)

only takes a few hours to see it, it already takes alot more than that to vote/comment anyway..

plus, if the number of people who went to see the movie at the theaters, bought the DVD, or rented it is any indication.. a good chunk of people know what the matrix is.. and if they dont, well, here's their chance :)

i'm personally pretty hyped up about this.. there are alot of "matrix-like" visual queues to the movie other than violence.. the green tint is just one of them.. now i'm going to have to see the move a few more times (as well as the sequel a few more times) to try to get an idea... the exploration of the idea to me will be the fun part.. after that comes trying to actually capture it..

Excellent. The possibilities are endless... Pulling off what I have in mind however, that is another matter :)

Yeah but it's like anything niche-like. Say there was a challenge on 'Cubism' or 'Kierkegaard' or '50's Kitsch Culture' or whatever other niche topic, and you it happened to be up your alley. Imagine your excitement.

OK, so some other people might be faced with the choice of doing research or sitting out. But 'so what?' one might say. 'It's just a week, and oh wow what a fun topic!'

See what I'm saying?

Cool challenge! This is one of my favorite movies! I bet we will see some interesting images come from this challenge.

For those that don't know what the matrix is, It is a digitized world of what you currently believe is the real world.

So if you don't know what to take take a picture of anything you like and submit it.

I can understand that if you haven't seen the film this challenge could be a bit limiting, but with a world wide box office take of $456,300,000 and being the 32nd most popular film in history (according to imdb.com voters) I think a large majority of people will know what it is about.

I agree totally what you are saying here Jak and I think you are quite right too Gordon, but ...
If I want to do a good job on whatever it is I must have much knowledge about the subject and I think we have too little time to learn enough about the Matrix subject. This is related to us too old to be intrerested in this kind of films. So probably no submitting and no voting for me here.

I think it is sad to have a challenged based on one single movie oops sorry two movies now, but now that it has been done how about a challenge based on a single actor and his career. Might I suggest since we have now been brought down to the level of our views of a single movie lets have a challenge based on Kevin Costner or Tom Hanks and at least that opens the challenge up to several movies. I for one don't care for the Matrix it was very over rated.

Now to those of you who keep saying don't enter if you don't understand the movie. How would you feel if it was a movie you couldn't relate to? Ask yourself that before you tell others not to enter a challenge that is so unfair of you to even say that. Maybe this will be the week of a lot of cliches by those who are protesting the challenge. This is definately one of those challenges that is very restricted to those who like the type of movie that Matrix was. I still can't decide if it was Sci-fi or Action, I think it was someone who tried to mix the two together and fooled a lot of people by doing that.

Primary colours, secondary colours, complimentry colours...... What Is The Matrix..... wooo hoooo! Something besides colours! There is nothing to say you HAVE to enter! Perhaps those complaining should throw themselves into their complimentry colours entry and let this one pass......
Personally, I didn't submit anything for secondary colours and won't be for complimentry colours either..... to be honest I'm not sure I can even bring myself to look at any more 'colours' entries..... so..... I will give it a miss.... simple really!

So stop complaining about it and get on with life.... it's not going to change..... either be a part of it or not..... but stop moaning about it.

Just my 2 cents worth....

Todd.

actually this challenge allows for pretty broad interpretation across the board. the posts here have explained the movie enough to get a feeling for what the "matrix" is and you could look up tons of movie reviews. but the challenge isn't about recreating a scene in the matrix or something like that, even though that is acceptable, it's more about your interpretation of the "matrix". it could actually be one of the most diverse challenge pools dpc has had in a while

You don't necessarily need to shoot people (photographically speaking of course). The Matrix has a lot to do with technology and this could be the direction you take with this challenge. It will be interesting to see what people come up with.

oh yeah .... ya know ... if it was EASY .. it wouldnt be a CHALLENGE ... (just a little reminder) :)
